Image display apparatus and method of controlling the same

Abstract

Provided are an image display apparatus and a method of controlling the same. The image display apparatus enabling voice recognition includes: a first voice inputter which receives a user-side audio signal; an audio outputter which outputs an audio signal processed by the image display apparatus; a first voice recognizer which recognizes the user-side audio signal received through the first voice inputter; and a controller which decreases a volume of the audio signal output through the audio outputter to a predetermined level if a voice recognition start command is received.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A display apparatus comprising:
 a display;   a communication unit configured to communicate with an external device; and   a controller, in response to receiving a control signal from the external device, configured to activate a speech recognition,   wherein when an audio input is not received during a first predetermined time after activating the speech recognition, the controller is configured to deactivate the speech recognition after the first predetermined time is elapsed since the speech recognition is activated, and   when the audio input is received during the first predetermined time after activating the speech recognition, the controller is configured to deactivate the speech recognition after a second predetermined time is elapsed since the speech recognition is activated.   
     
     
         2 . The display apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the second predetermined time is greater than the first predetermined time. 
     
     
         3 . The display apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein when the audio input is not received during a third predetermined time after activating the speech recognition, the controller is configured to output a message requesting an audio input for the speech recognition. 
     
     
         4 . The display apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein the third predetermined time is less than the first predetermined time. 
     
     
         5 . The display apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein the message output by the controller comprises a message image displayed on the display. 
     
     
         6 . The display apparatus according to  claim 3 , the message output by the controller comprises an audio message. 
     
     
         7 . The display apparatus according to  claim 1 , further comprising audio output unit to output an audio,
 wherein in response to receiving the control signal from the external device, the controller is configured to decrease an output volume output by the audio output unit to a predetermined level.   
     
     
         8 . The display apparatus according to  claim 7 , wherein in response to deactivating the speech recognition, the controller is configured to restore the output volume to a volume level set before the speech recognition started. 
     
     
         9 . The display apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the external device includes a remote controller, the remote controller comprising:
 a button for generating the control signal for the display apparatus to activate the speech recognition;   an audio receiver to receive an audio input; and   a communicator to communicate with the display apparatus, and   wherein the audio input is received through the audio receiver of the remote controller.   
     
     
         10 . The display apparatus according to  claim 1 , further comprising an audio receiving unit configured to receive the audio input for the speech recognition. 
     
     
         11 . A method of controlling a display apparatus, the method comprising:
 displaying a content;   activating a speech recognition in response to receiving a control signal from an external device;   when an audio input is not received during a first predetermined time after activating the speech recognition, deactivating the speech recognition after the first predetermined time is elapsed since the speech recognition is activated; and   when the audio input is received during the first predetermined time after activating the speech recognition, deactivating the speech recognition after a second predetermined time is elapsed since the speech recognition is activated.   
     
     
         12 . The method according to  claim 11 , wherein the second predetermined time is greater than the first predetermined time. 
     
     
         13 . The method according to  claim 11 , further comprising:
 when the audio input is not received during a third predetermined time after activating the speech recognition, outputting a message requesting an audio input for the speech recognition.   
     
     
         14 . The method according to  claim 13 , wherein the third predetermined time is less than the first predetermined time. 
     
     
         15 . The method according to  claim 13 , wherein the message output by the controller comprises a message image displayed on the display. 
     
     
         16 . The method according to  claim 13 , wherein the message output by the controller comprises an audio message. 
     
     
         17 . The method according to  claim 11 , wherein further comprising:
 in response to receiving the control signal from the external device, decreasing an output volume of an audio output unit to a predetermined level.   
     
     
         18 . The method according to  claim 17 , further comprising:
 in response to deactivating the speech recognition, restoring the output volume to a volume level set before the speech recognition started.   
     
     
         19 . The method according to  claim 11 , wherein the audio input is received through the external device. 
     
     
         20 . The method according to  claim 11 , wherein the audio input is received through an audio receiving unit of the display apparatus.
