Claims

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a tissue collection apparatus. The tissue collection apparatus comprises a housing defining an inlet and an outlet, a first filter disposed within the housing, a second filter disposed within the housing, the second filter configured to isolate tissue particles of a desired size that pass through the first filter under the application of an aspiration force applied through the housing. A method of harvesting tissue is also disclosed.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of collecting tissue, comprising:
 injecting a biocompatible gel through a filter of a tissue collection device from a second (downstream) side of the filter, the biocompatible gel expelling tissue from the filter and mixing with the tissue upstream of a first (upstream) side of the filter to form a combination of the biocompatible gel and the tissue; and   collecting the combination in a receiver.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 collecting the tissue on the filter by aspirating fluid and cut tissue from an inlet port of the tissue collection device on the upstream side of the filter toward an outlet port on a downstream side of the filter prior to injecting the biocompatible gel.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising:
 opening a receiver port of the tissue collection device after closing the inlet port, the receiver port located between the inlet port and the filter;   wherein the combination is collected in the receiver via the receiver port.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , further comprising:
 closing the inlet port after collecting the tissue on the filter and prior to injecting the biocompatible gel.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 3  further comprising:
 coupling an introducer to the outlet port; and 
 coupling the receiver to the receiver port. 
 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the introducer comprises a first syringe. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the receiver comprises container portion of second syringe. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the receiver comprises a static mixer portion coupled between the receiver port and the container portion of the second syringe. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , comprising expelling the combination from the tissue collection device via the receiver port and through the static mixer portion of the receiver. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising:
 decoupling the receiver from the receiver port after collecting the combination in the receiver; and   installing a syringe plunger to the second syringe.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising applying the combination directly from the receiver to a surgical site. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising applying the combination directly from the receiver to a tissue scaffold. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the biocompatible gel comprises fibrin glue. 
     
     
         14 . A method of collecting tissue, comprising:
 collecting tissue on a filter of a tissue collection device by aspirating fluid and cut tissue from an inlet port of the tissue collection device on the upstream side of the filter toward an outlet port on a downstream side of the filter;   coupling a first syringe to the outlet port of the tissue collection device after collecting the tissue on the filter;   injecting a biocompatible gel from the first syringe through the filter from a second (downstream) side of the filter, the biocompatible gel expelling tissue from the filter and mixing with the tissue upstream of the first (upstream) side of the filter to form a combination of the biocompatible gel and the tissue;   coupling a container portion of a second syringe to the tissue collection device;   expelling the combination from the tissue collection device; and   collecting the combination in the container portion of the second syringe.   
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , further comprising, coupling a static mixer between the tissue collection device and the container portion of the second syringe. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , comprising expelling the combination from the tissue collection device via the static mixer. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 14 , further comprising:
 decoupling the container portion of the second syringe from the tissue collection device after collecting the combination in the container portion of the second syringe; and   installing a syringe plunger to the second syringe.   
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , further comprising applying the combination directly from the second syringe to a surgical site. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 17 , further comprising applying the combination directly from the receiver to a tissue scaffold. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the biocompatible gel comprise fibrin glue.
