Abstract

The subject matter described herein is directed to articles, compositions, systems, and methods of using and preparing bioceramic compositions and to the bioceramic compositions. A bioceramic composition of the disclosure radiates infrared energy or rays and can be used in the treatment of various conditions.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of cultivating a plant, the method comprising cultivating the plant with a bioceramic composition, wherein the use of the bioceramic composition in the cultivation of the plant increases the absorbance of one or more nutrients by the plant. 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the bioceramic composition is in the form of a pellet, in the form of a powder, or incorporated into a textile. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the use of the bioceramic composition increases a total number of leaves of the cultivated plant as compared to a control that is not cultivated with the bioceramic composition. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the increase in the total number of leaves is greater than 4%. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the use of the bioceramic composition increases a total weight of the plant as compared to a control. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the increase in the total weight of the plant is greater than 5% or greater than 10%. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the use of the bioceramic composition increases the weight of the plant, not including the weight of the roots, as compared to a control that is not cultivated with the bioceramic composition. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the increase in the weight of the plant, excluding the weight of the roots, is greater than 5% or greater than 10%. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the plant is cultivated in a hydroponic system. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the use of the bioceramic composition in the cultivation of the plant increases the absorbance of one or more nutrients by the plant in fewer than 15 days. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the use of the bioceramic composition in the cultivation of the plant increases the absorbance of one or more nutrients by the plant in fewer than 21 days or fewer than 30 days. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the bioceramic composition comprises:
 a) from about 45 wt % to about 55 wt % kaolinite (Al 2 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 );   b) from about 5 wt % to about 15 wt % tourmaline;   c) from about 11 wt % to about 19 wt % silicon dioxide (SiO 2 );   d) from about 3 wt % to about 18 wt % of aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ); and   e) from about 3 wt % to about 13 wt % of at least one additional oxide   
       wherein the amounts are by total weight of the bioceramic composition. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the at least one additional oxide is selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), zirconium dioxide (ZrO 2 ), and magnesium oxide (MgO). 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the at least one additional oxide is magnesium oxide (MgO). 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the at least one additional oxide is titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ). 
     
     
         16 . A method of cultivating a plant, the method comprising cultivating the plant with a composition comprising kaolinite (Al 2 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 ), tourmaline, silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ), aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ), and at least one additional oxide selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), zirconium dioxide (ZrO 2 ), and magnesium oxide (MgO). 
     
     
         17 . A bioceramic composition for use in the cultivation of a plant, the bioceramic composition comprising:
 a) from about 45 wt % to about 55 wt % kaolinite (Al 2 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 );   b) from about 5 wt % to about 15 wt % tourmaline;   c) from about 11 wt % to about 19 wt % silicon dioxide (SiO 2 );   d) from about 3 wt % to about 18 wt % of aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ); and   e) from about 3 wt % to about 13 wt % of at least one additional oxide   
       wherein the amounts are by total weight of the bioceramic composition, wherein the use of the bioceramic composition in the cultivation of the plant increases the absorbance of one or more nutrients by the plant. 
     
     
         18 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 17 , wherein the at least one additional oxide is selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), zirconium dioxide (ZrO 2 ) and magnesium oxide (MgO). 
     
     
         19 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 17 , wherein the plant is an organic produce. 
     
     
         20 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 17 , wherein the plant is cultivated with the bioceramic for at least 10 days. 
     
     
         21 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 17 , wherein the bioceramic is in the form of a pellet, in the form of a powder, or incorporated into a textile. 
     
     
         22 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 21 , wherein the pellet further comprises a polymer. 
     
     
         23 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 22 , wherein the use of the bioceramic increases a total number of leaves of the cultivated plant as compared to a control that is not cultivated with the bioceramic composition. 
     
     
         24 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 23 , wherein the increase in the total number of leaves is greater than 4%. 
     
     
         25 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 17 , wherein the use of the bioceramic increases a total weight of the plant as compared to a control. 
     
     
         26 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 25 , wherein the increase in the total weight of the plant is greater than 5% or greater than 10%. 
     
     
         27 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 25 , wherein the use of the bioceramic increases a total weight of the plant without roots as compared to a control that is not cultivated with the bioceramic composition. 
     
     
         28 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 26 , wherein the increase in the total weight of the plant without roots is greater than 5% or greater than 10%. 
     
     
         29 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 17 , wherein the bioceramic composition is added to a hydroponic cultivation system. 
     
     
         30 . The bioceramic composition of  claim 17 , wherein the use of the bioceramic composition in the cultivation of the plant increases the absorbance of one or more nutrient by the plant in fewer than 21 days or fewer than 30 days.
