Abstract

Provided herein are systems and methods to configure an immersive theater environment by moving one or more screens. A movie screen can be provided with one or more actuators coupled to the movie screen, wherein the one or more actuators are configured to move the movie screen in a plurality of directions including, for example, up, down, left, right, back, forward, pitch, roll, and yaw. This system can include a processor coupled to the actuator, wherein the processor is configured to control the movement of the one or more actuators, synchronize cinema content for movement of the movie screen, process cinema content for metadata cues indicating movement of the movie screen, and track positions of the movie screen.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . (canceled)

         2 . A system comprising:
a screen configured to display video content to a viewer; one or more actuators coupled to the screen, wherein the one or more actuators are configured to change a position, orientation, or curvature of the screen relative to the viewer; and a processor coupled to the actuator, the processor configured to:
analyze metadata associated with the video content, and
based on the metadata, control the one or more actuators to change the position, orientation, or curvature of the screen relative to the viewer.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more actuators are further configured to curve the screen.

4 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the screen comprises a continuous screen that curves around an audience.

5 . The system of claim 2 , further comprising a rail system, wherein the one or more actuators are configured to slide the screen on the rail system.

6 . The system of claim 2 , further comprising one or more hinges disposed along edges of the screen allowing the screen to swing.

7 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the screen is shaped as one of a trapezoid, triangle, rhombus, circle, ellipse, sphere, elliptical surface, and torus.

8 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the viewer is stationary.

9 . The system of claim 2 , further comprising one or more sensors configured to determine positions, orientation, or curvature of the screen.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to track the position, orientation, or curvature of the screen based on the determined positions, orientation, or curvature and synchronize a projector with the screen based on the tracked positions, the projector configured to project the video content onto the screen.

11 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising a plurality of screens configured to display video content to the viewer, the plurality of screens including the screen and at least an additional screen, wherein the processor is further configured to track the position, orientation, or curvature of the screen based on the determined positions, orientation, or curvature and synchronize the movement of the screen relative to the additional screen.

12 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more actuators are configured to change the position, orientation, or curvature of the screen in at least one of up, down, left, right, back, forward, pitch, roll, and yaw.

13 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more actuators provide the screen with at least six degrees of freedom.

14 . The system of claim 2 , wherein changing the position, orientation, or curvature of the screen occurs in at least one of before, during, and after display of the video content.

         15 . A method comprising:
receiving a stream of data including video content and metadata associated with the video content, the video content to be displayed on a screen for display to a viewer; processing the metadata associated video content; and controlling one or more actuators coupled to cause the actuators to adjust a position, orientation, or curvature of the screen relative to the viewer based on the metadata.

16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising adjusting a shape of the screen via the one or more actuators.

17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein controlling the one or more actuators comprises moving the screen in at least one of up, down, left, right, back, forward, pitch, roll, and yaw.

18 . The method of claim 15 , wherein controlling the one or more actuators comprises size degrees of freedom.

19 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising synchronizing the adjustment of the position, orientation, or curvature of the screen with projection of the video content onto the screen.

20 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising tracking positions, orientation, or curvature of the screen based on a sensor detecting the adjustment in position, orientation, or curvature of the screen.

21 . The method of claim 20 , further comprising synchronizing the projection of the video content on the screen based on the tracked positions.

22 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the movement of the one or more actuators occurs in at least one of: before, during, and after projecting the video content.

23 . A video display screen controller comprising:
a memory; a processor coupled to the memory and configured to execute instructions stored within the memory to:
process a stream of data including video content and metadata associated with the video content, the video content to be displayed on a video display screen to a viewer; and
based on the metadata, output instructions to cause adjustment of a position, orientation, or curvature of the video display screen relative to the viewer.
