Abstract

An item of information ( 212 ) is transmitted to a distal computer ( 220 ), translated to a different sense modality and/or language ( 222 ), and in substantially real time, and the translation ( 222 ) is transmitted back to the location ( 211 ) from which the item was sent. The device sending the item is preferably a wireless device, and more preferably a cellular or other telephone ( 210 ). The device receiving the translation is also preferably a wireless device, and more preferably a cellular or other telephone, and may advantageously be the same device as the sending device. The item of information ( 212 ) preferably comprises a sentence of human of speech having at least ten words, and the translation is a written expression of the sentence. All of the steps of transmitting the item of information, executing the program code, and transmitting the translated information preferably occurs in less than 60 seconds of elapsed time.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

1 . A system comprising an application that is configured to be hosted on a mobile device, the application further configured to:
receive a text input; configure a wireless signal of the text input; transmit the wireless signal to a distal computing service for a distal computed translation of the text input; receive the translation wirelessly; and express the translation as an audible output translation or a text translation of the text input; wherein the application is configured to express the translation through another device that is intermittently local to the mobile device.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the application is further configured to express the translation in a modality other than audible output translation or text translation.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the application is further configured to provide an image corresponding to the translation, the image corresponds to a picture of a term corresponding to the text input.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the device is configured to express the translation as a musical note in a sound modality.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the application is configured to express the translation by reading the text translation.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein if the translation comprises a phone number, the mobile device is configured to place an outgoing call to the phone number.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein if the translation comprises a command to turn on or off another device, the application is configured to express the translation by turning the another device on or off at a given time.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the text input comprises a traffic-related warning.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the application causes the mobile device to transmit the wireless signal directly to the distal computing service.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the application causes the mobile device to transmit the wireless signal to the distal service via first and second networks.

11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the application is a web-based application and the distal computing service is provided by a web site computer.

12 . A method for executing an application on a mobile device, the method comprising:
receiving a text input; configuring a wireless signal of the text input; transmitting the wireless signal to a distal computing service for a distal computed translation of the text input; receiving the translation wirelessly; and expressing the translation as an audible output translation or a text translation of the text input; wherein the expressing comprises expressing the translation through another device that is intermittently local to the mobile device.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the expressing also includes expressing the translation in a modality other than audible output translation or text translation.

14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the expressing includes expressing the translation by reading the text translation.

15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the transmitting includes transmitting the wireless signal directly to the distal computing service.

16 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the transmitting includes transmitting the wireless signal to the distal service via first and second networks.

17 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the application is a web-based application and the distal computing service is provided by a web site computer.

18 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium that stores instructions that, when executed by a mobile device, operatively enable an application to:
receive a text input; configure a wireless signal of the text input; transmit the wireless signal to a distal computing service for a distal computed translation of the text input and output of the translation; receive the translation wirelessly; and express the translation as an audible output translation or a text translation of the text input; wherein the instructions that, when executed by the mobile device, further operatively enable the application to express the translation through another device that is intermittently local to the mobile device.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the application is a web-based application and the distal computing service is provided by a web site computer.

20 . A method to provide a distal computing service by a distal computing server, the method comprising:
receiving, from a mobile device, a wireless signal of a text input; processing the wireless signal to provide a distal computed translation of the text input; and transmitting the translation wirelessly to the mobile device, wherein the translation is expressed through another device as an audible output translation or a text translation of the text input, and the another device is intermittently local to the mobile device.
