Abstract

Methods, systems, and computer readable medium for facilitating selection of a preferred language associated with a website. In one example, information including information relating to a user is first received via the communication platform. The received information is then automatically analyzed to estimate a preferred language in which the user likely uses to view content from the website. A selector is displayed with an available selection of a language that most closely matches the estimated preferred language to allow the user to specify the user's preferred language with respect to the website. The user's preferred language is stored, and the user is redirected to the website in the user's preferred language.

What is claimed:

1 . A method implemented on a computer having at least one processor, storage, and communication platform for facilitating selection of a preferred language associated with a website, comprising the steps of:
receiving, via the communication platform, information relating to a referrer URL from which a user requests and accesses an original website in a first language, the information including a plurality of attributes; determining an order in which the plurality of attributes is to be analyzed to estimate a preferred language that the user likely prefers to view content from the original website; displaying a selector, with one or more selectable languages determined based on the estimated preferred language, that allows the user to select a second language from the one or more selectable languages; and in response to the user's selection, redirecting the user to a translated website in the second language that corresponds to the original website.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of attributes include at least:
a set of referrer domains associated with the preferred language, a set of referrer top level domain associated with the preferred language, one or more set of referrer keywords or parameters associated with the preferred language, and a number of users that use the referrer URL in a predetermined amount of time.

3 . The method of claim 1 ,wherein the referrer URL indicates a webpage containing a link the user clicked on to access the original website.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the selector is displayed only when the preferred language is different from the first language.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the information is received via an HTTP request.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
selecting a predetermined number of attributes of the plurality of attributes that are to be considered in estimating the preferred language of the user.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
customizing, based on the selected attributes, content to be delivered to the user.

8 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium having information recorded thereon for facilitating selection of a preferred language associated with a website, wherein the information, when read by the machine, causes the machine to perform the following:
receiving, via the communication platform, information relating to a referrer URL from which a user requests and accesses an original website in a first language, the information including a plurality of attributes; determining an order in which the plurality of attributes is to be analyzed to estimate a preferred language that the user likely prefers to view content from the original website; displaying a selector, with one or more selectable languages determined based on the estimated preferred language, that allows the user to select a second language from the one or more selectable languages; and in response to the user's selection, redirecting the user to a translated website in the second language that corresponds to the original website.

9 . The machine-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of attributes include at least:
a set of referrer domains associated with the preferred language, a set of referrer top level domain associated with the preferred language, one or more set of referrer keywords or parameters associated with the preferred language, and a number of users that use the referrer URL in a predetermined amount of time.

10 . The machine-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the referrer URL indicates a webpage containing a link the user clicked on to access the original website.

11 . The machine-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the selector is displayed only when the preferred language is different from the first language.

12 . The machine-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the information is received via an HTTP request.

13 . The machine-readable medium of claim 8 , the method further comprising:
selecting a predetermined number of attributes of the plurality of attributes that are to be considered in estimating the preferred language of the user.

14 . The machine-readable medium of claim 13 , the method further comprising: customizing, based on the selected attributes, content to be delivered to the user.
