Abstract

A system for temporarily enabling an otherwise disabled payment account for use in a transaction is configured to provide, based on a determination to disable a user's payment account, instructions to a user device of the user for displaying an application interface enabling the user to request to temporarily register the payment account for use in a transaction. The system is configured to receive a request, from the user device, to temporarily register the user's payment account to enable use of the payment account in a transaction, wherein the payment account is otherwise disabled based on a determination of fraud or possible fraud on the payment account, associate with the payment account, a transaction rule responsive to the request, the transaction rule defining a window of time in which a received transaction authorization request may be authorized for the payment account, and determine whether to approve the received transaction authorization request according to the temporary transaction rule, the determination being based on whether the transaction authorization request is received during the window of time. The system is also configured to transmit an authorization response to the transaction authorization request based on the determination.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A system for temporarily enabling an otherwise disabled payment account for use in a transaction, the system comprising:
 one or more memory devices storing instructions; and one or more processors configured to execute the instructions to:
 provide, based on a determination to disable a user's payment account, instructions to a user device of the user for displaying an application interface enabling the user to request to temporarily register the payment account for use in a transaction;
 receive a request, from the user device, to temporarily register the user's payment account to enable use of the payment account in a transaction, wherein the payment account is otherwise disabled based on a determination of fraud or possible fraud on the payment account;
 associate with the payment account, a transaction rule responsive to the request, the transaction rule defining a window of time in which a received transaction authorization request may be authorized for the payment account;
 determine whether to approve the received transaction authorization request according to the temporary transaction rule, the determination being based on whether the transaction authorization request is received during the window of time; and
 transmit an authorization response to the transaction authorization request based on the determination.

         2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to execute the instructions to disable the payment account based on a determination of possible fraud on the payment account.

         3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction rule is associated with the payment account for a predefined period of time corresponding to the window of time.

         4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the window of time is a predetermined number of minutes.

         5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to initiate, responsive to the request, a timer associated with a duration of the window of time.

         6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to receive the transaction authorization request, from a payment processing network, based on an indicator associated with a record of the payment account at the payment processing network, the indicator overriding automatic denial of the transaction authorization request at the payment processing network based on the determination of fraud or possible fraud and directing the payment processing network to forward the transaction authorization request to the system.

         7 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to provide instructions to the user device to display an indicator that represents the number of minutes remaining in which the payment account is usable for a transaction.

         8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the indicator includes a dynamic countdown indicative of the remaining time in which the payment account is usable for a transaction.

         9 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more processor are further configured to send, to the user device, data indicative of the duration of the window of time, the data being synchronized with the timer.

         10 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the one or more processor are further configured to execute the instructions to send, to the payment processing network, instructions to associate the indicator with the record of the payment account at the payment processing network.

         11 . A computer-implemented method for temporarily enabling an otherwise disabled payment account for use in a transaction, the method comprising:
 providing, based on a determination to disable a user's payment account, instructions to a user device of the user for displaying an application interface enabling the user to request to temporarily register the payment account for use in a transaction; receiving a request, from the user device, to temporarily register the user's payment account to enable use of the payment account in a transaction, wherein the payment account is otherwise disabled based on a determination of fraud or possible fraud on the payment account; associating with the payment account, a transaction rule responsive to the request, the transaction rule defining a window of time in which a received transaction authorization request may be authorized for the payment account; determining whether to approve the received transaction authorization request according to the temporary transaction rule, the determination being based on whether the transaction authorization request is received during the window of time; and transmitting an authorization response to the transaction authorization request based on the determination.

         12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the payment amount is disabled based on a determination of possible fraud on the payment account.

         13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transaction rule is associated with the payment account for a predefined period of time corresponding to the window of time.

         14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the window of time is a predetermined number of minutes.

         15 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising initiating, responsive to the request, a timer associated with a duration of the window of time.

         16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transaction authorization request is received, from a payment processing network, based on an indicator associated with a record of the payment account at the payment processing network, the indicator overriding automatic denial of the transaction authorization request at the payment processing network based on the determination of fraud or possible fraud and directing the payment processing network to forward the transaction authorization request to the system.

         17 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing instructions to the user device to display an indicator that represents the number of minutes remaining in which the payment account is usable to complete a transaction.

         18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the indicator includes a dynamic countdown indicative of the remaining time in which the payment account is usable to complete a transaction.

         19 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising sending, to the user device, data indicative of duration of the window of time, the data being synchronized with the timer.

         20 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to perform operations for temporarily enabling an otherwise disabled payment account for use in a transaction, the operations comprising:
 providing, based on a determination to disable a user's payment account, instructions to a user device of the user for displaying an application interface enabling the user to request to temporarily register the payment account for use in a transaction; receiving a request, from the user device, to temporarily register the user's payment account to enable use of the payment account in a transaction, wherein the payment account is otherwise disabled based on a determination of fraud or possible fraud on the payment account; associating with the payment account, a transaction rule responsive to the request, the transaction rule defining a window of time in which a received transaction authorization request may be authorized for the payment account; determining whether to approve the received transaction authorization request according to the temporary transaction rule, the determination being based on whether the transaction authorization request is received during the window of time; and transmitting an authorization response to the transaction authorization request based on the determination.
