Abstract
A brake component comprising: (a) one or more tie bars, and (b) one or more open spaces on each side of the tie bar, wherein during a brake apply the one or more tie bars each allow a brake pad to rotate into the open spaces of the brake component while the tie bar remains an only point of contact of the brake component.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 ) A brake piston comprising:
a body extending along a center axis; and a tie bar that is an elevated portion extending from the body; wherein during a brake apply, the tie bars allows the brake pad to rotate about the center axis of the body such that as one side of the brake pad rotates towards the brake piston, an opposing side of the brake pad rotates away from the brake piston.
2 )- 12 ) (canceled)
13 ) A brake system comprising:
a caliper having
a piston bore, and
a piston located within the piston bore; and
a brake pad, wherein the piston comprises a tie bar that is an elevated portion that extends in a direction of the brake pad; wherein during a brake apply, the piston contacts the brake pad with the tie bar, which allows one side of the brake pad to rotate towards the piston while another side of the brake pad rotates away from the piston.
14 ) The brake system of claim 13 , wherein an outer rim of the piston is free from contacting the brake pad during the brake apply.
15 ) (canceled)
16 ) The brake system of claim 14 , wherein the piston is located at an inboard side of the brake caliper, and the brake pad is an inboard brake pad.
17 ) The brake system of claim 13 , wherein the brake system includes four or more pistons, and at least one of the pistons comprises the tie bar.
18 ) The brake system of claim 13 , wherein the tie bar is an only point of contact between the brake pad and the piston.
19 ) (canceled)
20 ) (canceled)
21 ) The brake system of claim 13 , wherein an outer rim of the piston is free from contacting the brake pad during a brake retract.
22 ) The brake system of claim 13 , wherein an outer rim of the piston is free from contacting the brake pad during the brake apply and during a brake retract.
23 ) The brake system of claim 13 , wherein during the brake apply, the brake piston maintains its alignment with a center axis of the piston bore.
24 ) The brake system of claim 16 , wherein a second piston is located at an outboard side of the brake caliper, the second piston comprises a second tie bar that is an elevated portion of the second piston that extends in a direction of an outboard brake pad.
25 ) The brake system of claim 24 , wherein during the brake apply, the second piston contacts the outboard brake pad with the second tie bar, which allows one side of the outboard brake pad to rotate towards the second piston, while another side of the outboard brake pad rotates away from the second piston.
26 ) The brake system of claim 25 , wherein the second tie bar remains an only point of contact with the outboard brake pad while the second piston moves the outboard brake pad during the brake apply.
27 ) The brake piston of claim 1 , wherein the tie bar extends from a surface of the body that is generally perpendicular to the center axis of the body.
28 ) The brake piston according to claim 1 , wherein during the brake apply, the brake piston maintains alignment with a center axis of a piston bore in which the brake piston is received.
29 ) The brake piston according to claim 1 , wherein the brake piston maintains contact with the brake pad via the tie bar so that a center of force is applied on the brake pad during the brake apply.
30 ) The brake piston according to claim 1 , wherein the tie bar is an only point of contact between the brake piston and a pressure plate of the brake pad during the brake apply.
31 ) The brake piston according to claim 1 , wherein during a brake retract, the tie bar allows the brake pad to rotate about the center axis of the body such that as one side of the brake pad rotates towards the brake piston an opposing side of the brake pad rotates away from the brake piston.
32 ) The brake piston according to claim 27 , wherein the tie bar is located at a central region of the surface of the brake piston.
33 ) The brake piston according to claim 1 , wherein during the brake apply, the brake pad is free from contacting any other portion of the brake piston other than the tie bar.
34 ) A brake caliper comprising the brake piston of claim 1 , wherein the brake piston is located at an inboard side of the brake caliper and the brake pad is an inboard brake pad.Cited by (0)
