Abstract

One variation of a method for remotely controlling a payment card in real-time through a computing device includes: at the computing device, establishing a wireless connection with a payment card; over the wireless connection, receiving a first identifier of a first magnetic stripe card corresponding to a first magnetic stripe sequence command stored on the payment card; in response to receiving the first identifier of the first magnetic stripe card, rendering a first notification on a display of the computing device, the first notification indicating the first magnetic stripe card; and in response to receiving a selection for the first notification rendered on the display of the computing device, transmitting an instruction to the payment card, over the wireless connection, to emulate the first magnetic stripe card according to the first magnetic stripe sequence command during an upcoming transaction.

I claim:

1 . A method for remotely controlling a payment device in real-time through a computing device, the method comprising:
at the computing device, establishing a wireless connection with a payment device; over the wireless connection, receiving a trigger to render a notification related to the payment device; identifying a first payment method corresponding to a first payment data file stored on the payment device; presenting a first notification on a display of the computing device, the first notification indicating the first payment method; and in response to receiving a selection for the first notification rendered on the display of the computing device, transmitting an instruction to the payment device, over the wireless connection, to emulate the first payment method according to the first payment data file during an upcoming transaction.

2 . A method for remotely controlling a payment card in real-time through a computing device, the method comprising:
at the computing device, establishing a wireless connection with a payment card; over the wireless connection, receiving a first identifier of a first magnetic stripe card corresponding to a first magnetic stripe sequence command stored on the payment card; in response to receiving the first identifier of the first magnetic stripe card, rendering a first notification on a display of the computing device, the first notification specifying a first label for the first magnetic stripe card; identifying a second magnetic stripe card for an upcoming transaction with the payment card, the second magnetic stripe card corresponding to a second magnetic stripe sequence command stored on the computing device; rendering a second notification on the display adjacent the first notification, the second notification specifying a second label for the second magnetic stripe card; and in response to receiving a selection for the second notification rendered on the display of the computing device, transmitting an instruction to the payment card to emulate the second magnetic stripe card, rather than the first magnetic stripe card, according to the second magnetic stripe sequence command during an upcoming transaction with the payment card.
