Abstract

To assist in patent searching a description includes a consumer purchasing behavior profiling system having aspects including consumer profiles formed and updated based on a variety of data. Advertisers access to send targeted advertising messages to the consumers. Aspects include advertising information together with incentive level and mix being correlated with the consumer profile to produce a measure of the applicability of the ad to that consumer and the probability of converting that consumer. Other aspects include determining the mix of ad information, incentive level and type, and product offering that will be required to convert an ad viewer to a buyer. Aspects focus on using wireless devices with consumers. Other aspects reside in methods of using electronic coupons distribution and redemption to collect additional data points necessary to understand the consumer's purchasing decision process and factors that influence the purchasing decision.

         72 . A server system comprising:
 a database for storing consumer information comprising, for each consumer, an identifier associated with the consumer and information corresponding to at least one electronic coupon associated with the consumer, the electronic coupon comprising identification of a product or service and an amount by which a purchase price is reduced, wherein information necessary to redeem the electronic coupon at a communication device is not transmitted to the consumer;   an authentication system for authenticating consumer identifiers received from the communication device; and   a redemption module configured for (i) sending to the communication device, following successful authentication of the consumer identifier by the authentication system, information required for redemption of at least one electronic coupon, wherein the consumer identifier itself is non-redeemable for a discount, and (ii) following completion of the transaction at the communication device, sending data representative of the redemption to a server responsible for recording redemption data.   
     
     
         73 . The server system of  claim 72 , wherein the saved data representative of the redemption is received from the communication device. 
     
     
         74 . The server system of  claim 72 , wherein the server is further configured to send redemption reports to parties responsible for payment of the purchase price reduction for redeemed coupons based on saved data representative of coupon redemptions. 
     
     
         75 . The server system of  claim 72 , wherein the communication device is a transaction-processing device. 
     
     
         76 . The server system of  claim 75 , wherein the transaction-processing device is a point-of-sale terminal.

         78 . The server system of  claim 72 , further comprising an analytic system configured for analyzing information in the database and determining therefrom at least one analytic parameter corresponding to the electronic coupon. 
     
     
         79 . The server system of  claim 78 , wherein the at least one analytic parameter comprises one or more of (i) a probabilistic conversion rate of the coupon or (ii) a consumer profile defining a consumer group for receiving the electron coupon. 
     
     
         80 . The server system of  claim 79 , further comprising a matching engine for identifying consumers to receive the electronic coupon based on the consumer profile. 
     
     
         81 . The server system of  claim 80 , further comprising a mobile coupon distribution module for transmitting the electronic coupon to the identified consumers. 
     
     
         82 . The server system of  claim 80 , further comprising an advertiser content database for storing at a plurality of incentive programs including electronic coupons, the matching engine being configured to identify consumers to receive various ones of the incentive programs. 
     
     
         83 . A communication system comprising:
 a plurality of seller connection devices for processing payment transactions;   a plurality of consumer mobile devices;   a database for storing consumer information comprising, for each consumer, an identifier associated with the consumer and information corresponding to at least one electronic coupon,   the electronic coupon comprising identification of a product or service and an amount by which a purchase price is reduced, wherein information necessary to redeem the electronic coupon at a communication device is not transmitted to any of the consumer mobile devices;   an authentication system for authenticating a consumer's identifier obtained by the seller connection device; and   a redemption system for causing (i) based on upon successful authentication of the identification to which the at least one electronic coupon is applied, redemption of the at least one electronic coupon, and (ii) following completion of the transaction at the communication device, storage of data representative of the redemption in the database.   
     
     
         84 . The communication system of  claim 86 , wherein the redemption system is configured to send information required for redemption of electronic coupons to the seller connection devices, wherein the identifiers are non-redeemable for a discount. 
     
     
         85 . The communication system of  claim 83 , wherein the seller connection devices are transaction-processing devices. 
     
     
         86 . The communication system of  claim 83 , wherein at least some of the seller connection devices are point-of-sale terminals.

The communication system of  claim 90 , wherein the server further comprises a mobile coupon redemption module for sending redemption reports to parties responsible for payment of the purchase price reduction for redeemed coupons based on stored data representative of coupon redemptions. 
     
     
         94 . The server system of  claim 72 , wherein the redemption module is further configured to save data representative of the redemption in the database.
