Abstract

Embodiments of the invention include a handpiece system including a detachable cable that can receive at least power, and a detachable cable connector, where the detachable cable connector and detachable cable are reversibly attachable to each other. In some embodiments, the system includes an interchangeable laser module, where the laser module and detachable cable connector are reversibly attachable to each other. Further, the interchangeable laser module is configured and arranged to receive at least the power via the cable connector when coupled to the cable connector, and to be removed from the detachable cable connector and replaced with another laser module. In some embodiments, the system further includes an interchangeable handpiece which is reversibly attachable to the interchangeable laser module. Further, the interchangeable handpiece is configured and arranged to be removed from the interchangeable laser module and replaced with another interchangeable handpiece.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A handpiece system comprising:
a detachable cable configured and arranged to receive at least power; a detachable cable connector, the detachable cable connector and detachable cable being reversibly attachable to each other; at least one interchangeable laser module, the at least one interchangeable laser module and the detachable cable connector being reversibly attachable to each other, wherein the at least one interchangeable laser module is configured and arranged to receive at least the power via the cable connector when coupled to the cable connector, and to be removed from the detachable cable connector and replaced with another laser module; and at least one interchangeable handpiece, at least one interchangeable handpiece and the at least one interchangeable laser module being reversibly attachable to each other, and wherein the at least one interchangeable handpiece is configured and arranged to be removed from the at least one interchangeable laser module and replaced with at least one other interchangeable handpiece.

2 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a power supply remote from the at least one interchangeable laser module and coupled to the detachable cable at an end of the cable opposite from the cable connector.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one interchangeable laser module includes at least one of a laser diode, a diode-pumped solid state laser, a flashlamp-pumped solid state laser, and a light emitting diode.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one laser module and the another laser module are configured and arranged to generate electromagnetic energy with wavelengths that differ from each other.

5 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a controller, remote from the at least one laser module.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the controller is configured and arranged to be coupled to the at least one laser module using the at least one detachable cable.

7 . The system of claim 5 , further comprising a remote controller.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the remote controller is operatively coupled to the controller using a wired coupling.

9 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the remote controller and controller include wireless circuitry configured and arranged to enable wireless communication between the remote controller and the controller.

10 . The system of claim 2 , further comprising a control module coupled or integrated with the power supply.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the control module includes a wireless controller configured and arranged to be wirelessly controlled with a smartphone or a tablet computer.

12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the power supply and control module are coupled with or integrated into a dental chair.

13 . The system of claim 12 , further comprising at least one display terminal mounted, coupled, or integrated with the dental chair.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the at least one display terminal is configured to display information based on one or more sensor signal from a coupled assembly of the handpiece, at least one laser module, and detachable cable connector.

15 . The system of claim 14 , further comprising a user interface configured to control signals to the at least one laser module.

16 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the detachable cable includes at least one fluid channel configured and arranged to deliver at least one fluid to the handpiece.

17 . The system of claim 1 , wherein detachable connector comprises connections including at least one of a laser power control signal connection, fluid intake and output connections, an identification code signal connection, a thermistor signal connection, a photodiode signal connection, a light emitting diode signal connection, and an aiming beam connection.

18 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the at least one laser module includes an electronic identifier configured and arranged to be sent to the control module via the detachable cable.
