Web Application Retrieval and Display of Web Content Based Information with Web Content

Abstract

A service maintains information regarding one or more aspects of Web content, such as Web pages, that can be accessed by a computing device. The same service or a different service (e.g., a digital assistant) also maintains information regarding the user of the computing device. When a user navigates to Web content using a Web application, such as a Web browser, the services are accessed to obtain information regarding the Web content navigated to, information regarding the user, and/or user selectable tasks or actions. The Web application displays the obtained information to the user along with the Web content. The Web application displays the obtained information without altering the obtained Web content. Optionally, the Web application displays an indication that additional information regarding the Web content is available, and displays the obtained information (e.g., automatically or in response to receiving a user input request to display that additional information).

         2 . A computing device comprising:
 an input module configured to receive user inputs to the computing device;   an output module configured to display content on a display device;   a Web application including a Web content presentation module, an information presentation module, and an information retrieval module;   the Web content presentation module being configured to obtain and display, via the output module, Web content;   the information retrieval module being configured to:
 obtain, from one or more information services, Web content information regarding the Web content, and user information regarding the user, and 
 create additional information for the Web content by modifying the Web content information based on the user information; and 
   the information presentation module being configured to display, via the output module, an additional information indication indicating that the additional information is available.   
     
     
         3 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the user information is obtained from a digital assistant, the digital assistant maintaining information regarding the user, including one or more of: a calendar, a food preference, a location associated with the user, an age of the user, or a contact. 
     
     
         4 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the Web content presentation module and the information presentation module are configured to simultaneously display the Web content and the additional information indication. 
     
     
         5 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the Web content information is a menu, the user information is a food preference, and the additional information is the menu modified to show items that fit the food preference. 
     
     
         6 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the Web content information is an address, the user information is information about a mobile device of the user, and the additional information is a selectable link to send directions to the address to the mobile device. 
     
     
         7 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the additional information is a selectable action. 
     
     
         8 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the additional information is a link to a Web page selected based on the user's history. 
     
     
         9 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the additional information is a link to add an event to the user's calendar. 
     
     
         10 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the additional information is a link to send an invitation to a contact. 
     
     
         11 . The computing device of  claim 2 , wherein the additional information indication comprises displaying a selectable icon. 
     
     
         12 . The computing device of  claim 2 , the information presentation module further configured to display a description of the additional information. 
     
     
         13 . A method implemented in a Web application, the method comprising:
 receiving a user input identifying Web content to access;   obtaining the Web content;   obtaining information from a local information service comprising a digital assistant that maintains information regarding the user related to the Web content; and   presenting, by the Web application, the information from the local information service along with the Web content.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the information regarding the user comprises one or more of: Web content accessed by the user, music listened to by the user, a contact list, a calendar, an order confirmation, a flight confirmation, a food preference, an age of the user, an activity level of the user, and a location associated with the user. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the Web content comprises an airline Web page and the information from the local information service comprises a flight confirmation. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising obtaining additional information from a different information source based on the information from the local information source. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the information from the local information service comprises a selectable link to send an invitation to a contact. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the Web content includes an address, and the presented information comprises a selectable icon to send directions to a remote device. 
     
     
         19 . A method comprising:
 accessing Web content;   obtaining, from a digital assistant associated with a user, user information about the user relating to the Web content;   obtaining, from one or more information services, Web content information regarding the Web content;   modifying the Web content information based on the user information; and   displaying the Web content and the modified Web content information simultaneously.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the digital assistant maintains the user information, the user information comprising one or more of: Web content accessed by the user, music listened to by the user, a contact list, a calendar, an order confirmation, a flight confirmation, a food preference, an age of the user, an activity level of the user, and a location associated with the user. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the Web content information is modified to include less information than was obtained.
