Abstract
A combination tool for a thread milling system includes: a tool mount configured to secure the combination tool on a thread milling machine of the thread milling system; a body connected to the tool mount, the body having a first end and a second end, the body defining a securing pocket; and a reaming insert secured proximate to the second end and within the securing pocket.

1 . A combination tool for a thread milling system comprising:
a tool mount configured to secure the combination tool on a thread milling machine of the thread milling system; a body connected to the tool mount, the body having a first end and a second end, the body defining a securing pocket; and a reaming insert secured proximate to the second end and within the securing pocket.
2 . The combination tool of claim 1 , wherein the reaming insert is a first reaming insert, and wherein the combination tool further comprising a second reaming insert secured proximate to the second end and within the securing pocket distal from the first reaming insert.
3 . The combination tool of claim 2 , wherein the first reaming insert comprises a cutting edge and the second reaming insert comprises a cutting edge, and wherein a distance between the cutting edge of the first reaming insert and the cutting edge of the second reaming insert is adjustable.
4 . The combination tool of claim 1 , wherein the reaming insert is pivotable relative to the body.
5 . The combination tool of claim 1 , wherein the securing pocket dimensioned to accept a threading tool of the thread milling system.
6 . The combination tool of claim 5 , further comprising a fastener configured to secure the threading tool within the securing pocket.
7 . The combination tool of claim 1 , wherein the tool mount defines an engagement groove configured to secure the combination tool on the thread milling machine.
8 . The combination tool of claim 7 , wherein the engagement groove is configured secure the combination tool to a spindle of the thread milling machine.
9 . The combination tool of claim 8 , wherein the combination tool is configured to be secured such that the combination tool rotates when the spindle rotates.
10 . A thread milling system comprising:
a thread milling machine having a spindle; and a combination tool having a body and a reaming insert, the body having a first end and a second end, the body defining a securing pocket, the reaming insert secured proximate to the second end of the body and within the securing pocket, the second end of the body attached to the spindle.
11 . The thread milling system of claim 10 , wherein the thread milling machine includes a positioning assembly, the positioning assembly of the thread milling machine movable along an x-axis, a y-axis, and a z-axis.
12 . The thread milling system of claim 11 , wherein the positioning assembly includes the spindle.
13 . The thread milling system of claim 10 , further comprising a threading tool, the threading tool secured in the securing pocket.
14 . The thread milling system of claim 10 , further comprising:
a securing mount proximate to the spindle; and a product secured in a securing mount.
15 . The thread milling system of claim 14 , wherein the product is a pipe.
16 . The thread milling system of claim 10 , wherein the reaming insert is a first reaming insert, wherein the combination tool further comprises a second reaming insert secured proximate to the second end of the body and within the securing pocket distal from the first reaming insert, wherein the first reaming insert comprises a cutting edge and the second reaming insert comprises a cutting edge, and wherein a distance between the cutting edge of the first reaming insert and the cutting edge of the second reaming insert is adjustable.
17 . A method of operating a thread milling machine comprising:
securing a product in a securing mount proximate to the thread milling machine, the thread milling machine having a spindle; securing a combination tool to the spindle, the combination tool having a body and an insert, the body having a first end and a second end, the body defining a securing pocket, the insert secured proximate to the second end at a first side of the securing pocket, the second end attached to the spindle; and rotating the spindle.
18 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising securing a threading tool in a combination tool.
19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising engaging the threading tool with the product.
20 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising:
moving the spindle along an x-axis, a y-axis, and a z-axis around the product through a positioning assembly; and disengaging the threading tool from the product after the spindle has made one pass around the product.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
