Devices and methods for arched roof cutters
Abstract
Disclosed herein are tissue-removal devices and methods for treating spinal diseases using such devices. The tissue-removal devices may comprise a cable and/or extendable elements with a retracted and a deployed configuration. The cable and/or extendable elements may be distally supported and restrained by a support element such that the support element may be pushed transversely away when the extendable element is distally extended into its deployed configuration. An annular cutting element may be provided about the distal end of the extendable element or the support element. Various configurations of the extendable and support elements are described herein, as well as methods of using tissue-removal devices with extendable and support elements coupled by an annular cutting element for treating spinal diseases.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 .- 19 . (canceled)
20 . A tissue removal system, comprising:
a handheld housing, an adjustment assembly and a motor; an outer shaft with a beveled distal end and a proximal end attached to the handheld housing; an inner shaft located within the outer shaft and coupled to the motor, the inner shaft comprising a blunt distal end; an elongate member having a distal end, the elongate member extending through a distal opening of the inner shaft; and a support element having proximal and distal ends, the proximal end coupled to the inner shaft and the distal end coupled to the elongate member, the support element being configured to outwardly deflect from the inner shaft when the elongate member is extended distally.
21 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the elongate member comprises a multifilament cable.
22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the elongate member comprises a multifilament cable loop distal to the distal end of the inner shaft.
23 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the multifilament cable is a flexible, inelastic loop.
24 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the support element comprises a multifilament cable.
25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the support element comprises a multifilament cable loop.
26 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the support element comprises a flexible metal strip.
27 . The system of claim 20 , further comprise a cutting structure located on the elongate member or the support element.
28 . The system of claim 27 , wherein said cutting structure comprises a series of serrations.
29 . The system of claim 27 , wherein said cutting structure comprises an annular cutting element.
30 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the annular cutting element comprises a through lumen.
31 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the annular cutting element has a central axis with tangential orientation with respect to the rotation path of the annular cutting element.
32 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the rotation path comprises a rotation axis located outside of the annular cutting element.
33 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the distance between the distal end of the support element and a central axis of the inner shaft is about 2 mm to about 15 mm.
34 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the distance between the distal end of the support element and a central axis of the inner shaft is about 6 mm to about 14 mm.
35 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the distance between the distal end of the support element and a central axis of the inner shaft is about 8 mm to about 12 mm.
36 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the elongate member is joined to the support element by a hinge configuration.
37 . The system of claim 36 , wherein the hinge mechanism is configured to generally limit relative movement between the elongate member and the support element to a plane that generally bisects the elongate member and the support element.
38 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the cutting edge is a first distance away from a central axis of the inner shaft and the outer surface of the cutter is a second distance away from the central axis of the inner shaft, the first distance being greater than the second distance.Cited by (0)
