Abstract
The potential for substance abuse involving residual amounts of abusable substances remaining in used skin-worn patches is reduced by the provision of a system and method for combining the abusable substance with a separate anti-abuse substance agent as part of a removal or disposal procedure.

34 . A device for disposing a substance, the device comprising:
(a) a disposal container having an opening therein for receiving the substance; and (b) a deactivation system in the container comprising a material that renders the substance unusable upon contact with the substance.
35 . The device according to claim 34 , wherein the deactivation system comprises an absorbent material.
36 . The device according to claim 35 , wherein the absorbent material comprises activated carbon.
37 . The device according to claim 35 , wherein the absorbent material is present as a layer on a side of the container.
38 . The device according to claim 34 , wherein the container comprises a pouch.
39 . The device according to claim 34 , wherein the container comprises a closure system configured to seal the container.
40 . The device according to claim 38 , wherein the closure system comprises an adhesive.
41 . The device according to claim 38 , wherein the closure system comprises a ziplock.
42 . A method for disposing a substance, the device comprising:
(a) introducing the substance into a disposal container comprising:
(i) an opening therein for receiving the substance; and
(ii) a deactivation system in the container comprising a material that renders the substance unusable upon contact with the substance; and
(b) sealing the opening.
43 . The method according to claim 42 , wherein the deactivation system comprises an absorbent material.
44 . The method according to claim 43 , wherein the absorbent material comprises activated carbon.
