Bottle with vented neck

Abstract

A glass bottle includes a body having a closed end, a shoulder spaced from the end, a neck extending from the shoulder, and a neck finish at an end of the neck for attachment of a closure, characterized in that the neck finish and at least a portion of the neck adjacent to the neck finish have non-circular internal surfaces.

1 . A bottle that includes a body having a closed end, a shoulder spaced from said end, a neck extending from said shoulder, and a neck finish at an end of said neck for attachment of a closure,
 characterized in that   said neck finish and at least a portion of said neck adjacent to said neck finish and between said neck finish and said body have non-circular internal surfaces.   
     
     
         2 . The bottle set forth in  claim 1  wherein said non-circular internal surfaces include a fluted, cog-shaped profile. 
     
     
         3 . The bottle set forth in  claim 1  wherein said non-circular internal surfaces include a lobed, clamshell-shaped profile. 
     
     
         4 . The bottle set forth in  claim 3 , wherein said profile has a first circular portion, a second and smaller circular portion, and tangent lobes connecting the circular portions. 
     
     
         5 . The bottle set forth in  claim 4 , wherein the tangent lobes connecting the circular portions of the profile of the profile are straight. 
     
     
         6 . The bottle set forth in  claim 1  wherein said non-circular internal surfaces include at least one of an undulating circumferential profile, an elliptical profile, a hexagonal profile, a cross-shaped profile, a square profile, a rounded pentagon profile, a keyway-shaped profile, a sawtooth-shaped profile, a decagon profile, an eye-shaped profile, an incurvate hexagon profile, a rectangular profile, an archway-shaped profile, a lantern-shaped profile, or a triangular profile. 
     
     
         7 . The bottle set forth in  claim 1  wherein said non-circular internal surfaces include at least one of a badge shaped profile, or a profile including radially inwardly projecting rounded lobes. 
     
     
         8 . The bottle set forth in  claim 1 , wherein said neck finish has a wall thickness that is circumferentially and radially continuous. 
     
     
         9 . The bottle set forth in  claim 1 , wherein said neck finish has a wall thickness having no discontinuities. 
     
     
         10 . The bottle set forth in  claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of said shoulder has non-circular internal surfaces. 
     
     
         11 . A bottle that includes a body having a closed end, a shoulder spaced from said end, a neck extending from said shoulder, and a neck finish at an end of said neck for attachment of a closure and having an axial lip, an external closure attachment diameter, and an external surface of circular cross section,
 wherein said neck finish and at least a portion of said neck adjacent to said neck finish have non-circular internal surfaces, and said neck includes a neck interior with a non-circular cross-section including internal axial features having axial ends axially spaced apart from the lip, and wherein the neck finish has a wall thickness that is circumferentially and radially continuous.   
     
     
         12 . The bottle set forth in  claim 11  wherein said non-circular internal surfaces include a fluted, cog-shaped profile. 
     
     
         13 . The bottle set forth in  claim 11  wherein said non-circular internal surfaces include a lobed, clamshell-shaped profile. 
     
     
         14 . The bottle set forth in  claim 13 , wherein said profile has a first circular portion, a second and smaller circular portion, and tangent lobes connecting the circular portions. 
     
     
         15 . The bottle set forth in  claim 14 , wherein the tangent lobes connecting the circular portions of the profile of the profile are straight. 
     
     
         16 . The bottle set forth in  claim 11  wherein said non-circular internal surfaces include at least one of an undulating circumferential profile, an elliptical profile, a hexagonal profile, a cross-shaped profile, a square profile, a rounded pentagon profile, a keyway-shaped profile, a 3rectangular profile, an archway-shaped profile, a lantern-shaped profile, or a triangular profile. 
     
     
         17 . The bottle set forth in  claim 11  wherein said non-circular internal surfaces include at least one of a badge shaped profile, or a profile including radially inwardly projecting rounded lobes. 
     
     
         18 . The bottle set forth in  claim 11 , wherein at least a portion of said shoulder has a non-circular cross-section. 
     
     
         19 . The bottle set forth in  claim 11 , wherein said neck finish has a wall thickness having no discontinuities.
