Abstract
Techniques are described for character identification for establishing communication. A numeric or alphanumeric sequence of characters in a document is identified that conforms to a specified format usable to establish a communication. The document is altered to insert an activatable object in place of the numeric or alphanumeric sequence. The activatable object is activated with a user input to initiate the communication.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for implementing providing automatic communication activation on a computing device, comprising:
processing an electronic document using a specified format to identify a numeric or alphanumeric sequence of characters in the document that satisfies the format and that is usable to establish a communication; altering the electronic document to insert an object in place of the identified numeric or alphanumeric sequence, the object being activatable to initiate the communication based on the numeric or alphanumeric sequence; receiving a user input activating the object; and initiating the communication responsive to receiving the user input.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin, wherein said determining the country of origin comprises determining a default country of origin based on a location of registration of software on the computing device.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin, wherein said determining the country of origin comprises determining a default country of origin based on a registry setting of the computing device.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic document is a web page.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the numeric or alphanumeric sequence is a phone number, and the communication is a phone call.
7 . A system for implementing providing automatic communication activation, comprising:
one or more processors; and one or more computer readable media comprising computer code components that, responsive to execution by the one or more processors, perform operations comprising:
processing an electronic document using a specified format to identify a numeric or alphanumeric sequence of characters in the document that satisfies the format and that is usable to establish a communication;
altering the electronic document to insert an object in place of the identified numeric or alphanumeric sequence, the object being activatable to initiate the communication based on the numeric or alphanumeric sequence;
receiving a user input activating the object; and
initiating the communication responsive to receiving the user input.
8 . The system of claim 7 , the operations further comprising determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin.
9 . The system of claim 7 , the operations further comprising determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin, wherein said determining the country of origin comprises determining a default country of origin based on a location of registration of software on the computing device.
10 . The system of claim 7 , the operations further comprising determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin, wherein said determining the country of origin comprises determining a default country of origin based on a registry setting of the computing device.
11 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the electronic document is a web page.
12 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the electronic document comprises a web page, and wherein said altering the electronic document comprises altering computer instructions of the web page to replace the numeric or alphanumeric sequence of characters with the inserted object.
13 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the numeric or alphanumeric sequence is a phone number, and the communication is a phone call.
14 . A computing system for implementing providing automatic communication activation, comprising:
means for processing an electronic document using a specified format to identify a numeric or alphanumeric sequence of characters in the document that satisfies the format and that is usable to establish a communication; means for altering the electronic document to insert an object in place of the identified numeric or alphanumeric sequence, the object being activatable to initiate the communication based on the numeric or alphanumeric sequence; means for receiving a user input activating the object; and means for initiating the communication responsive to receiving the user input.
15 . The computing system of claim 14 , further comprising means for determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin.
16 . The computing system of claim 14 , further comprising means for determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin, wherein said determining the country of origin comprises determining a default country of origin based on a location of registration of software on the computing system.
17 . The computing system of claim 14 , further comprising means for determining a country of origin of the document and determining the specified format based on the country of origin, wherein said determining the country of origin comprises determining a default country of origin based on a registry setting of the computing system.
18 . The computing system of claim 14 , wherein the electronic document is a web page.
19 . The computing system of claim 14 , wherein the numeric or alphanumeric sequence is a phone number, and the communication is a phone call.
20 . The computing system of claim 14 , wherein the electronic document comprises a web page, and wherein said altering the electronic document comprises altering computer instructions of the web page to replace the numeric or alphanumeric sequence of characters with the inserted object.Cited by (0)
