Abstract

An electronic device comprising: a user interface having a display for displaying a standby screen when the device is in an idle state and a user input device, wherein the user interface provides a menu system, for re-configuring the standby screen, that is navigated using the user input device.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An apparatus, comprising:
a user interface comprising a touch screen and a display for displaying a first standby screen, the first standby screen comprising a plurality of graphical items when the apparatus is in an idle state, wherein the user interface provides a menu, for re-configuring the first standby screen, the menu being navigable using the touch screen; at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code; the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus at least to: allow a user to select an option in the menu to cause the display to display a representation of a second standby screen, different from the first standby screen, which includes a plurality of zones, wherein the zones in the representation of the second standby screen are associated with graphical items of the first standby screen; and allow the user to move, in the representation of the second standby screen, a zone associated with a graphical item of the first standby screen, which causes the graphical item of the first standby screen to move.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the menu enables the user to resize the graphical item of the first standby screen.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the menu enables the user to select and move one zone at a time in the representation of the second standby screen.

4 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the menu provides an option for modifying an attribute of the graphical item, after selection of the zone associated with the graphical item in the representation of the second standby screen.

5 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the attribute for modification is selected from a list of possible attributes in the menu.

6 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein modifying an attribute modifies the value associated with the attribute, the value being selected from a predetermined list of possible attribute values in the menu.

7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the menu comprises an option for deleting a graphical item from the first standby screen.

8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the menu comprises an option for adding a graphical item to the first standby screen.

9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus is a mobile cellular telephone.

         10 . A method, comprising:
providing a menu, for re-configuring a first standby screen of a user interface, that is navigable using a touch screen and which enables a user to: select an option in the menu to cause a display to display a representation of a second standby screen, different from the first standby screen, which includes a plurality of zones, wherein the zones in the representation of the second standby screen are associated with graphical items of the first standby screen; and move, in the representation of the second standby screen, a zone associated with a graphical item of the first standby screen, which causes the graphical item of the first standby screen to move.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the menu enables the user to resize the graphical item of the first standby screen.

12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the menu enables the user to select and move one zone at a time in the representation of the second standby screen.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the menu provides an option for modifying an attribute of a graphical item, after selection of the zone associated with the graphical item in the representation of the second standby screen.

14 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the menu comprises an option for deleting a graphical item from the standby screen.

15 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the menu comprises an option for adding a graphical item to the standby screen.

16 . A computer program for re-configuring a first standby screen of an apparatus, the computer program comprising: computer programming instructions that provide a menu, for re-configuring the first standby screen, that is navigable using a touch screen and which enables a user to:
select an option in the menu to cause a display to display a representation of a second standby screen, different from the first standby screen, which includes a plurality of zones, wherein the zones in the representation of the second standby screen are associated with graphical items of the first standby screen; and move, in the representation of the second standby screen, a zone associated with a graphical item of the first standby screen, which causes the graphical item of the first standby screen to move.

17 . The computer program of claim 16 , wherein the menu enables the user to resize the graphical item of the first standby screen.

18 . The computer program of claim 16 , wherein the menu enables the user to select and move one zone at a time in the representation of the second standby screen.

19 . The computer program of claim 18 , wherein the menu provides an option for modifying an attribute of a graphical item, after selection of the zone associated with the graphical item in the representation of the second standby screen.

20 . The computer program of claim 16 , wherein the menu comprises at least one of a first option for deleting a graphical item from the first standby screen and a second option for adding a graphical item from the first standby screen.
