Conveniently implantable sustained release drug compositions

Abstract

This invention provides for biocompatible and biodegradable syringeable liquid, implantable solid, and injectable gel pharmaceutical formulations useful for the treatment of systemic and local disease states.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A method of treating inflammation in an eye of a subject comprising injecting into an anterior chamber of the eye of a subject in need thereof a liquid pharmaceutical composition consisting of a therapeutically effective amount of dexamethasone dispersed in a triethyl ester of O-acetylcitric acid (TEAC). 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the liquid pharmaceutical composition contains about 10% dexamethasone. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein a dosage unit consists of about 200 μg dexamethasone. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein a dosage unit consists of about 400 μg dexamethasone. 
     
     
         5 . A liquid pharmaceutical composition consisting of a therapeutically effective amount of dexamethasone dispersed in a triethyl ester of O-acetylcitric acid (TEAC). 
     
     
         6 . A method of administering the liquid pharmaceutical composition of  claim 5 , comprising injecting the composition into the anterior chamber/anterior segment of the eye of a subject in need thereof. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the liquid pharmaceutical composition contains about 10% (wy) dexamethasone. 
     
     
         8 . A liquid pharmaceutical composition consisting of about 10% (wt) dexamethasone dispersed in a triethyl ester of O-acetylcitric acid (TEAC). 
     
     
         9 . A method of administering the liquid pharmaceutical composition of  claim 7 , comprising injecting it into the anterior chamber/anterior segment of the eye of a subject in need thereof. 
     
     
         10 . A method of administering the liquid pharmaceutical composition of  claim 8 , comprising injecting it into the anterior chamber/anterior segment of the eye of a subject in need thereof.
