Systems and methods for determining a field of view
Abstract
A system for determining a person's field of view with respect to captured data (e.g., recorded audiovisual data). A multi-camera capture system (e.g. bodycam, vehicular camera, stereoscopic, 360-degree captures system) records audiovisual data of an event. The field of capture of a capture system or a field of capture of captured data combined from multiple capture systems may be greater than the field of view of a person. Facial features (e.g. eyes, ears, nose, and jawlines) of the person may be detected from the captured data. Facial features may be used to determine the field of view of the person with respect to the captured data. Sensors that detect head orientation may be used to determine the field of view of the person with respect to captured data. The field of view of the person may be shown with respect to the captured data when the captured data is played back.

1 . A system for capturing video data at an event, the system comprising:
a first camera that captures video data in a first field of capture; and a second camera that captures video data in a second field of capture; wherein:
the first camera is mounted on a user to orient the first field of capture along a first axis;
the second camera is mounted on the user to orient the second field of capture along a second axis;
the first camera is positioned apart from the second camera;
the first field of capture overlaps a portion of the second field of capture whereby a combination of the first field of capture and the second field of capture provides a combined field of capture that is greater than any one of the first field of capture and the second field of capture;
an angle between the first axis and the second axis is fixed; and
each camera captures a portion of a facial anatomy of the user.
2 . The system of claim 1 further comprising a support, wherein:
the support is shaped to fit around a neck of the user;
the support rests on at least one of the neck and shoulders of the user; and
the first camera is coupled to the support on a first side of the user and the second camera is coupled to the support on a second side of the user thereby the first camera is positioned apart from the second camera.
3 . The system of claim 1 wherein the facial anatomy captured by each camera includes one or more of an eye, an ear, a nose, a jawline, a chin, a cheek, a temple, and a pupil.
4 . The system of claim 1 wherein the facial anatomy is used to determine a field of view of the user.
5 . The system of claim 1 further comprising:
a sensor that detects an orientation of a head of the user;
a processing circuit; wherein:
the sensor reports data regarding the orientation of the head of the user to the processing circuit; and
the processing circuit stores the data from the sensor with the video data from the first camera and the second camera.
6 . The system of claim 5 further wherein the data from the sensor is used to determine a field of view of the user.
7 . The system of claim 1 further comprising a communication circuit, wherein:
the communication circuit transmits the first field of capture and the second field of capture to a server; and
the server determines a field of view of the user.
8 . A system for capturing video data at an event, the system comprising:
a first camera that captures video data in a first field of capture; a second camera that captures video data in a second field of capture; a processing circuit; and a support, the support shaped to fit around a neck of a user, the support rests on at least one of the neck and shoulders of the user; wherein:
the first camera is coupled to the support and oriented to capture the first field of capture;
the second camera is coupled to the support and oriented to capture the second field of capture;
the first field of capture overlaps a portion of the second field of capture thereby forming a field of overlapping capture; and
the processing circuit determines a distance from the user to one or more objects that appears in the field of overlapping capture.
9 . The system of claim 8 further comprising a communication circuit, wherein the communication circuit transmits a message that includes the distance from the user to at least one of the one or more objects.
10 . The system of claim 8 wherein each camera captures a portion of a facial anatomy of the user.
11 . The system of claim 8 wherein the facial anatomy captured by each camera includes one or more of an eye, an ear, a nose, a jawline, a chin, a cheek, a temple, and a pupil.
12 . The system of claim 8 wherein a facial anatomy is used to determine a field of view of the user.
13 . The system of claim 8 wherein the support couples to a clothing of the user.
14 . The system of claim 8 wherein the support couples to a collar of a shirt of the user.
15 . A system for capturing video data of an event, the system comprising:
a first camera that captures video data in a first field of capture; a second camera that captures video data in a second field of capture; a sensor coupled to a head of a user, the sensor detects an orientation of the head of the user with respect to the first camera and the second camera; a processing circuit; and a support, the support shaped to fit around a neck of the user, the support rests on at least one of the neck and shoulders of the user; wherein:
the first camera is coupled to the support and oriented in a first direction;
the second camera is coupled to the support and oriented in a second direction;
the sensor provides information as to the orientation of the head of the user; and
the information for determining a portion of at least one of the first field of capture and the second field of capture that falls within a field of view of the user.
16 . The system of claim 15 wherein the processing circuit:
receives the information; and
determines the portion of at least one of the first field of capture and the second field of capture that falls within the field of view of the user; and
stores indicia of the field of view with respect to the at least one of the first field of capture and the second field of capture.
17 . The system of claim 15 wherein the processing circuit further detects a facial anatomy of the user in the video data.
18 . The system of claim 17 wherein the facial anatomy captured by each camera includes one or more of an eye, an ear, a nose, a jawline, a chin, a cheek, a temple, and a pupil.
