Claims

Abstract

Provided are compositions and methods for use in prophylaxis of puerperal metritis and improving reproductive function of ruminants. The methods and compositions are for subcutaneous administration and are provided as veterinary compositions and as articles of manufacture. The veterinary composition can contain whole cells selected from whole cells of Escherichia coli (E. coli), Trueperella pyogenes (T. pyogenes), Fusobacterium necrophorum (F. necrophorum) and combinations thereof; and/or proteins selected from F. necrophorum leukotoxin (LKT), E. coli type 1 fimbrial adhesin (FimH), T. pyogenes pyolysin (PLO), and all combinations of the whole cells and the proteins.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A veterinary composition for use in subcutaneous administration to a ruminant for improving reproductive function of the ruminant, the composition comprising all of  F. necrophorum  leukotoxin (LKT) protein,  E. coli  type 1 fimbrial adhesin (FimH) protein, and  T. pyogenes  pyolysin (PLO) protein. 
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , further comprising an adjuvant. 
     
     
         3 . A method of improving reproductive function of a ruminant comprising subcutaneously administering to the ruminant a veterinary composition comprising: i) all of  F. necrophorum  leukotoxin (LKT) protein,  E. coli  type 1 fimbrial adhesin (FimH) protein, and  T. pyogenes  pyolysin (PLO) protein; or all of ii) inactivated whole cells of  Escherichia coli  ( E. coli ),  Trueperella pyogenes  ( T. pyogenes ), and  Fusobacterium necrophorum  ( F. necrophorum ). 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the composition comprises all the proteins of i). 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the composition comprises all the inactivated whole cells of ii).
