Abstract
An absorbent article. The absorbent article includes a topsheet having a body contacting surface, a backsheet joined to said topsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, wherein the absorbent core has an upper layer and a lower layer. The lower layer has two density zones.

1 . An absorbent article, the absorbent article comprising:
(a) a topsheet having a body contacting surface and a lower surface opposite the body contacting surface, (b) a backsheet joined to the topsheet; and (c) an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, wherein the absorbent core comprises an upper layer comprising an upper surface and a lower surface opposite the upper surface and a lower layer comprising an upper surface and a lower surface opposite the upper surface, the lower layer comprising a fibrous network; (d) wherein the absorbent article has a transverse center line; (e) wherein the absorbent core upper layer comprises a perimeter and an upper layer transverse center line; (f) wherein the absorbent core upper layer perimeter is divided by the upper layer transverse center line into a first section and a second section; and (g) wherein the absorbent core lower layer comprises two density zones.
2 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the absorbent core exhibits a rewet pressure of greater than 1.7 psi.
3 . The absorbent article of claim 2 , wherein the absorbent core upper layer and the absorbent core lower layer each exhibit a Delta E when exposed to Artificial Menstrual Fluid, and wherein the Delta E for each layer is less than 5 apart.
4 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein absorbent article upper layer exhibits a three point bend peak force that is less than 1.5 times the three point bend peak force of the lower layer.
5 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the upper layer of the absorbent core covers less than 95% of the upper surface of the lower layer of the absorbent core.
6 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the upper layer of the absorbent core covers less than 60% of the upper surface of the lower layer of the absorbent core.
7 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the upper surface of the upper layer of the absorbent article is in contact with no greater than 80% of the lower surface of the topsheet.
8 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the upper layer comprises an open celled foam has a mean cell diameter between about 10 microns and about 1,000 microns.
9 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the absorbent core has a total thickness between about 0.8 mm to about 18 mm.
10 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the fibers are formed into a wet laid web having a dry basis weight of between about 40 g/m2 and about 350 g/m2 and a dry density of between about 0.04 g/cc and about 0.25 g/cc.
11 . An absorbent article, the absorbent article comprising:
(a) a topsheet having a body contacting surface and a lower surface opposite the body contacting surface, (b) a backsheet joined to the topsheet; and (c) an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, wherein the absorbent core comprises an upper layer comprising an upper surface and a lower surface opposite the upper surface and a lower layer comprising an upper surface and a lower surface opposite the upper surface, the lower layer comprising a fibrous network; (f) wherein the absorbent article has a transverse center line; (g) wherein the upper layer comprises a perimeter comprising discontinuous portions; (h) wherein the absorbent core upper layer perimeter comprises a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis center axis dividing the absorbent core upper layer perimeter into a section one and a section two; (i) wherein the absorbent core lower layer comprises a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis dividing the absorbent core lower layer into a section one and a section two; (h) wherein the absorbent core lower layer comprises two density zones; and (i) wherein the absorbent core upper layer and the absorbent core lower layer each exhibit a Delta E when exposed to Artificial Menstrual Fluid, wherein the Delta E for each layer is less than 5 apart.
12 . The absorbent article of claim 11 , wherein the transverse axis of the absorbent core lower layer does not overlay the longitudinal axis of the absorbent core upper layer.
13 . The absorbent article of claim 11 , wherein section one of the absorbent article upper layer is 25% larger in total surface area than section two of the absorbent article upper layer.
14 . The absorbent article of claim 11 , wherein the upper layer of the absorbent core covers less than 95% of the upper surface of the lower layer of the absorbent core.
15 . The absorbent article of claim 11 , wherein section one of the absorbent core upper layer is in direct contact with section two of the absorbent core lower layer.
16 . The absorbent article of claim 11 , wherein the absorbent core has a total thickness between about 0.8 mm to about 18 mm.
