Abstract

The strain Lactobacillus casei AH077 (NCIMB12019) produces a polysaccharide and increases energy excretion. The strain acts to block fat absorption and is used in the prevention or treatment of obesity and obesity-related metabolic syndrome.

         35 . The formulation as claimed in  claim 29  wherein the ingestible carrier comprises a food product chosen from acidified milk, yoghurt, frozen yoghurt, milk powder, milk concentrate, cheese spreads, dressings, or beverages. 
     
     
         36 . The formulation as claimed in  claim 29  which further comprises at least one of a protein or a peptide rich in glutamine/glutamate, a lipid, a carbohydrate, a vitamin, a mineral, a trace element, or a combination thereof.

         42 . A capsule comprising the strain of  Lactobacillus casei  AH077 of  claim 27 . 
     
     
         43 . A method for preventing or treating a health condition, comprising administering a composition comprising a strain of  Lactobacillus casei  AH077 deposited with the NCIMB under accession number 42019 to a subject in need thereof. 
     
     
         44 . The method of  claim 43 , wherein the method blocks fat absorption by the patient. 
     
     
         45 . The method of  claim 43 , wherein the health condition includes obesity, obesity-related metabolic syndrome, or both. 
     
     
         46 . The method of  claim 43 , wherein the health condition is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
