Helmet assembly

Abstract

A helmet cover system includes a helmet cover having connected fasteners to removably fasten the cover to a helmet. The cover may include an elongated bar positioned along a front edge of the cover, wherein the elongated bar is attachable to a front mount connected to the helmet. The elongated bar may be held to the cover by one or more loops of the cover. The cover may leave an accessory mounting portion of the front mount exposed for use.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A helmet cover system comprising:
 a flexible cover configured to cover at least a portion of a helmet outer surface;   an elongated rigid bar attached to the cover;   a first fastener component positioned on the elongated bar, the first fastener component being configured to removably attach to a second, complementary fastener component positioned on an exterior of the helmet.   
     
     
         2 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 1 , wherein the flexible cover includes an opening at a front of the cover configured to leave a component attached to the helmet uncovered when the cover is attached to the helmet. 
     
     
         3 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 1 , further comprising a third fastener component positioned on the elongated bar, the third fastener component being configured to removably attach to a fourth, complementary fastener component positioned on the exterior of the helmet, wherein the elongated bar has a lateral middle and the first fastener component are positioned on an opposite side of the lateral middle as the third fastener component.

         5 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 1 , further comprising the helmet and the second, complementary fastener component.

A helmet cover system as in  claim 5 , further comprising a third fastener component positioned on the elongated bar, and a fourth, complementary fastener component positioned on the exterior of the helmet, the third fastener component being configured to removably attach to the fourth, complementary fastener component. 
     
     
         8 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 7 , further comprising a front mount configured to be attached to a front of the helmet, wherein the second, complementary fastener component and the fourth, complementary fastener component are positioned on the front mount. 
     
     
         9 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 7 , wherein:
 the first fastener component comprises a first tab;   the second fastener component comprises a first slot;   the third fastener component comprises a second tab;   the fourth fastener component comprises a second slot;   the first tab is configured to be fastened in the first slot; and   the second tab is configured to be fastened in the second slot.   
     
     
         10 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 5 , wherein the helmet cover is configured to cover at least a majority of the helmet outer surface.

         12 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 1 , further comprising a first loop attached to the flexible cover, wherein the elongated bar passes through the first loop.

         14 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 1 , wherein the elongated bar extends laterally across the cover at or near a front edge of the cover.

         16 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 14 , wherein:
 the flexible cover forms a first loop;   the elongated bar is held by the first loop of the flexible cover; and   the first loop and the elongated bar are sized and shaped to prevent removal of the elongated member from the first loop without increasing a size of the first loop.

         18 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 1 , wherein the elongated rigid bar is not removable from the cover without damaging the cover.

         30 . A helmet cover system comprising:
 a flexible helmet cover configured to cover at least a portion of an outer surface of a helmet, the cover having a first loop at a front edge of the cover;   an elongated member, wherein the first loop wraps around a first portion of a length of the elongated member, leaving at least a portion of the elongated member exposed; wherein   the elongated member has a first fastener component extending from the exposed portion of the elongated member, the first fastener component configured to fasten to a second, complementary fastener component on a helmet to attach the elongated member to the helmet.   
     
     
         31 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 30 , further comprising the helmet and the second, complementary fastener. 
     
     
         32 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 31 , further comprising:
 a third fastener component extending from the exposed portion of the elongated member; and   a fourth fastener component on the helmet, wherein the third fastener component is configured to fasten to the fourth fastener component.   
     
     
         33 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 31 , wherein a portion of the first loop is sandwiched between the elongated member and a helmet component when the elongated member is attached to the helmet.

         36 . A helmet cover system comprising:
 a helmet having an outer surface;   a front mount mounted to the helmet, the front mount having an accessory mounting portion;   a cover configured to cover at least a portion of the helmet outer surface;   a first fastener component attached to the cover; and   a second, complementary fastener component positioned on a front of the front mount;   wherein the first fastener component is configured to removably fasten to the second, complementary fastener component at the front of the front mount to attach the helmet cover to the front of the front mount.   
     
     
         37 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 36 , wherein the first fastener component is positioned on an elongated bar that is attached to the cover. 
     
     
         38 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 37 , wherein the first fastener component comprises a vertically extending tab. 
     
     
         39 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 38 , wherein the second, complementary fastener component comprises a rail forming a slot into which the vertically extending tab is insertable. 
     
     
         40 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 37 , wherein the elongated bar is attached to the cover via a loop of the cover.

         47 . A helmet cover system as in  claim 36 , wherein the cover has an opening configured to leave the accessory mounting portion exposed when the cover is covering the helmet outer surface.
