Managing osteoporosis with hmw peg

Abstract

The present invention relates to the administration of compositions comprising polyethylene glycol, for improving the general gastrointestinal health of an animal increasing growth performance and treating osteopenia, osteoporosis and other bone disorders.

         26 . A kit for use in the treatment of osteopenia or osteoporosis, comprising a therapeutically effective dose of a compound consisting essentially of a high molecular weight polyethylene glycol (HMW-PEG) having an average molecular weight of between 15,000 and 20,000 daltons, wherein the HMW-PEG comprises at least two hydrocarbon chains attached to a hydrophobic core, wherein each hydrocarbon chain has an average molecular weight of at least 40 percent of the HMW-PEG compound, wherein the hydrophobic core comprises a ring structure. 
     
     
         27 . The kit of  claim 26 , comprising means for delivering said therapeutically effective dose to an animal in need thereof. 
     
     
         28 . The kit of  claim 27 , wherein the therapeutically effective dose is delivered orally. 
     
     
         29 . The kit of  claim 27 , wherein the therapeutically effective dose is delivered rectally. 
     
     
         30 . The kit of  claim 27 , wherein the therapeutically effective dose is delivered by injection. 
     
     
         31 . The kit of  claim 27 , wherein the therapeutically effective dose is delivered by surgical irrigation.
