Abstract
Apparatus and methods for bone cavity preparation. Formed broaching members may be supported inside a bone by a rotator. The broaching members may be bowed out inside the bone to create a cavity having a shape determined by the broaching members and bone anatomy.

79 . A tissue cavity preparation tool comprising:
an elongated body having a span segment including a sharp edge, the body defining a central axis and including:
a first end member at a first end of the body, the first end member being disposed at an angular displacement, about the central axis, from the span segment when the first end member is in a relaxed state; and
an elongated support defining orthogonal longitudinal and radial directions, the support being configured to retain the first end member of the body spaced longitudinally apart along the longitudinal direction from a second end member to bow the body in a direction extending radially away from the support;
wherein the span segment is between the first and second end members.
80 . The tool of claim 79 wherein:
the angular displacement is a first angular displacement;
the second end member is disposed at a second angular displacement, about the central axis, from the span segment when the second end member is in a relaxed state.
81 . The tool of claim 80 wherein the second angular displacement is about equal in magnitude to the first angular displacement.
82 . The tool of claim 80 wherein the second angular displacement is greater than the first angular displacement.
83 . The tool of claim 80 wherein the second angular displacement is opposite in direction relative to the central axis from the first angular displacement.
84 . The tool of claim 80 wherein the second angular displacement is in the same direction relative to the central axis as the first angular displacement.
85 . The tool of claim 79 wherein:
the span segment includes a trailing edge and a face;
the sharp edge is a sharp convex edge; and
the span segment curves in a plane that is parallel to the face when the body, in a state in which the body is not coupled to the support, is in a planar configuration;
wherein the support retains the first end member of the body spaced apart from the second end member, so that the face forms a cone-like configuration.
86 . The tool of claim 79 wherein the second end member is coupled to a wrap section and extends away from the wrap section, the wrap section including wire wrapped around a transverse member coupled to the support.
87 . The tool of claim 86 further comprising, when the elongated body is a first elongated body:
a second elongated body including a first end and a second end, wherein:
the second elongated body first end is coupled to the wrap section and extends away from the wrap section; and
the second elongated body second end is retained by the support.
88 . The tool of claim 87 wherein the first elongated body, the wire and the second elongated body together are of monolithic construction.
89 . The tool of claim 87 wherein the first elongated body has a first length and the second elongated body has a second length that is different from the first length.
90 . The tool of claim 87 wherein the first elongated body has a first heat-set shape and the second elongated body has a second heat-set shape different from the first heat-set shape.
91 . The tool of claim 87 wherein:
the support defines a support central axis; and,
along the support central axis, the first body is opposite the second body.
92 . The tool of claim 87 wherein:
the first end member of the first body is fixed to the support at a first position; and
the second end of the second body is fixed to the support at a second position, the second position being longitudinally offset along a central axis of the support from the first position.
93 . The tool of claim 87 further comprising an outer sleeve concentric with the support, the outer sleeve configured to slide axially along a central axis of the support toward a distal end of the support.
94 . The tool of claim 87 further comprising:
a first activation mechanism configured to adjust a longitudinal distance between the first end member of the first body and the second end member of the first body; and
a second activation mechanism configured to adjust a longitudinal distance along the support central axis between the first end of the second body and the second end of the second body.
95 . The tool of claim 87 wherein the support is flexible.
96 . The tool of claim 87 wherein the support is rigid.
97 . The tool of claim 87 wherein:
the wire has a first width;
both the first body and the second body have a second width; and
the first width is smaller than the second width.

209 . The tool of claim 79 wherein the elongated support is further configured to retain a face of the first end member in an orientation normal to the radial direction.
210 . The tool of claim 79 wherein the elongated body further comprises a twist positioned between the span segment and the first end member.

212 . The tool of claim 210 wherein, when the first end member is in a relaxed state, the twist positions the first end member at the angular displacement, about the central axis, from the span segment.
213 . The tool of claim 79 wherein the retaining of the first end member by the elongated support rotates a surface normal of the span segment in a direction opposite the angular displacement.
214 . A tissue cavity preparation tool comprising:
an elongated body defining a central axis and comprising:
a span segment including a sharp edge;
a first end member; and
a twist positioned between the span segment and the first end member; and
an elongated support defining orthogonal longitudinal and radial directions, the support being configured to retain the first end member of the body spaced longitudinally apart along the longitudinal direction from a second end member of the body to bow the body radially away from the support.
215 . The tool of claim 214 wherein the twist comprises a portion of the body that has been twisted about the central axis.
216 . The tool of claim 214 wherein, when the first end member is in a relaxed state, the twist positions the first end member at an angular displacement, about the central axis, from the span segment.
217 . The tool of claim 214 wherein the retaining of the first end member by the elongated support rotates a surface normal of the span segment in a direction opposite the angular displacement.
218 . A tissue cavity preparation tool comprising an elongated rotator and a broaching member including a first elongated body, a second elongated body and a loop, the first and second bodies and the loop together being of monolithic construction, wherein:
the first elongated body defines a first central axis and includes a first twist, a first span segment extending between a first body first end and the first twist, and a first body second end extending away from the first twist, wherein when the first body second end is in a relaxed state:
the first body second end is positioned at an angular displacement, about the first central axis, relative to the first span segment;
the second elongated body defines a second central axis and includes a second twist, a second span segment extending between a second body first end and the second twist, and a second body second end extending away from the second twist, wherein when the second body second end is in a relaxed state:
the second body second end is positioned at an angular displacement, about the second central axis, relative to the second span segment;
the rotator defines a longitudinal axis, the rotator being configured to:
retain the first body second end such that the first body second end is spaced longitudinally apart from the first body first end and the first span segment forms a first cone-like surface when the first body is coupled to the rotator and in an expanded state; and
