Event notification in interconnected content-addressable storage systems
Abstract
Some of the embodiments herein provide a seamless cloud of storage. This storage may be content-addressable storage. An end application may or may not be exposed to the fact that content-addressable storage is used. Various embodiments herein provide event notification, which may allow applications or users to subscribe to particular events (such as storage of an X-ray by a particular entity). Some embodiments provide for a shared archive. A shared archive may provide homogeneous access to medical data, etc. that was previously stored into the CAS cloud by heterogeneous applications, varied data types, etc. Additionally, embodiments herein allow for the creation and distribution of virtual packages. For example, a user may create a virtual package for all images related to a patient so that she may have a virtual package of all of her medical data to present to a referring physician.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method for event notification in an interconnected content-addressable storage system, said method executing on one or more computing devices, said method comprising:
receiving a request for event notification of a particular type of event at a first content-addressable storage server from a first application, said first content-addressable storage server being implemented on one or more computing devices; receiving a request to perform an action associated with an event of the particular event type at a second content-addressable storage server, wherein the first and second content-addressable storage servers are distinct and wherein the first and second content-addressable storage servers are both part of a content-addressable storage cloud; performing the action associated with the event of the particular event type at the second content-addressable storage server; upon performance of the action associated with the event of the particular event type at the second content-addressable storage server, propagating an event notification through the content-addressable storage cloud; and upon receipt of the event notification at the first content-addressable storage server, providing for notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises, upon performance of the action associated with the event of the particular event type, propagating data related to the action through the content-addressable storage cloud.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises, upon notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type, retrieving data related to the event notification at the first content-addressable storage server.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein providing for notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type comprises pushing a message related to the event of the particular event type to the first application.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein providing for notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type comprises the first application polling for the event of the particular event type.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein providing for notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type comprises the first application filtering arriving event notification for the event of the particular event type.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein propagating an event notification through the content-addressable storage cloud comprises broadcasting the event notification to one or more neighboring content-addressable storage servers.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the request for event notification of the particular event type of event comprises receiving a request for event notification of storage of data.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the request for event notification of the particular event type of event comprises receiving a request for event notification of alteration of data.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the request for event notification of the particular event type of event comprises receiving a request for event notification of deletion of data.
11 . A system for event notification in an interconnected content-addressable storage system, said system comprising:
a first content-addressable storage server comprising one or more computing devices configured to:
receive a request for event notification of a particular type of event; and
upon receipt of an event notification of the particular type of event, providing for notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type,
wherein the event notification was received from a second content-addressable storage server, wherein the second content-addressable storage server:
received a request to perform an action associated with an event of the particular event type;
performed the action associated with the event of the particular event type; and
upon performance of the action associated with the event of the particular event type at the second content-addressable storage server, sent the event notification to the first content-addressable storage server.
12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first content-addressable storage server is further configured to, upon notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type, retrieve data related to the event notification.
13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein providing for notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type comprises pushing a message related to the event of the particular event type to the first application.
14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein providing for notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type comprises the first application polling for the event of the particular event type.
15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the event notification received at the first content-addressable storage server is received from the second content-addressable storage server through a content-addressable storage cloud that comprises the first and second content-addressable storage servers.
16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein receiving the request for event notification of the particular event type of event comprises receiving a request for event notification of storage of data.
17 . A non-transient computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions for event notification in an interconnected content-addressable storage system, said computer-executable instructions, when running on one or more computers, performing a method comprising:
receiving a request for event notification of a particular type of event at a first content-addressable storage server from a first application, said content-addressable storage server being implemented on one or more computing devices; receiving a request to perform an action associated with an event of the particular event type at a second content-addressable storage server, wherein the first and second content-addressable storage servers are distinct and wherein the first and second content-addressable storage servers are both part of a content-addressable storage cloud; performing the action associated with the event of the particular event type at the second content-addressable storage server; upon performance of the action associated with the event of the particular event type at the second content-addressable storage server, propagating an event notification through the content-addressable storage cloud; and upon receipt of the event notification at the first content-addressable storage server, providing for notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type.
18 . The non-transient computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein said method further comprises, upon performance of the action associated with the event of the particular event type, propagating data related to the action through the content-addressable storage cloud.
19 . The non-transient computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein said method further comprises, upon notification to the first application of the event of the particular event type, retrieving data related to the event notification at the first content-addressable storage server.
20 . The non-transient computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein receiving the request for event notification of the particular event type of event comprises receiving a request for event notification of storage of data.Cited by (0)
