Abstract

A side rail for a motor vehicle sub-frame includes (a) a first component having a first extrusion axis and (b) a second component having a second extrusion axis wherein the first and second components are joined with the first extrusion axis and the second extrusion axis forming an included angle of between 60 and 90 degrees.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed:

         1 . A side rail for a motor vehicle sub-frame, comprising:
a first component having a first extrusion axis; and a second component having a second extrusion axis; wherein said first component is joined to said second component with said first extrusion axis and said second extrusion axis forming an included angle of between 60 and 90 degrees.

2 . The side rail of claim 1 , wherein said first component includes a first wall, forming an upper wall of said side rail, and a second wall, forming a lower wall of said side rail.

3 . The side rail of claim 2 , wherein said second component includes a third wall, forming an inner side wall of said side rail, and a fourth wall, forming an outer side wall of said side rail.

4 . The side rail of claim 3 , wherein said second component is positioned in said first component and said third wall and said fourth wall are joined to inner surfaces of said first wall and said second wall.

5 . The side rail of claim 1 , wherein said first component includes a first part and a second part wherein a first end of said first part is joined to a second end of said second part.

6 . The side rail of claim 5 , wherein said second component includes a first element and a second element, said first element being joined to a first inner surface of said first part and said second element being joined to a second inner surface of said second part.

7 . The side rail of claim 6 , wherein said first component includes a first wall, forming an upper wall of said side rail, and a second wall, forming a lower wall of said side rail.

8 . The side rail of claim 7 , wherein said second component includes a third wall, forming an inner side wall of said side rail, and a fourth wall, forming an outer side wall of said side rail.

9 . The side rail of claim 8 , wherein said second component at least partially closes said first component to provide an at least partially closed side rail.

10 . The side rail of claim 9 , wherein said first component is joined to said second component by a weld.

         11 . A side rail for a motor vehicle sub-frame, comprising:
a first component having a first extrusion axis; and a second component having a second extrusion axis; wherein said first component is joined to said second component with said first extrusion axis and said second extrusion axis forming an included angle of between 70 and 90 degrees.

12 . The side rail of claim 11 , wherein said first component includes a first wall, forming an upper wall of said side rail, and a second wall, forming a lower wall of said side rail.

13 . The side rail of claim 12 , wherein said second component includes a third wall, forming an inner side wall of said side rail, and a fourth wall, forming an outer side wall of said side rail.

14 . The side rail of claim 13 , wherein said second component is positioned in said first component and said third wall and said fourth wall are joined to inner surfaces of said first wall and said second wall.

15 . The side rail of claim 11 , wherein said first component includes a first part and a second part wherein a first end of said first part is joined to a second end of said second part and said second component includes a first element and a second element, said first element being joined to a first inner surface of said first part and said second element being joined to a second inner surface of said second part.

         16 . A side rail for a motor vehicle sub-frame, comprising:
a first component having a first extrusion axis; and a second component having a second extrusion axis; wherein said first component is joined to said second component with said first extrusion axis and said second extrusion axis forming an included angle of between 80 and 90 degrees.

17 . The side rail of claim 16 , wherein said first component includes a first wall, forming an upper wall of said side rail, and a second wall, forming a lower wall of said side rail.

18 . The side rail of claim 17 , wherein said second component includes a third wall, forming an inner side wall of said side rail, and a fourth wall, forming an outer side wall of said side rail.

19 . The side rail of claim 18 , wherein said second component is positioned in said first component and said third wall and said fourth wall are joined to inner surfaces of said first wall and said second wall.

20 . The side rail of claim 19 , wherein said first component includes a first part and a second part wherein a first end of said first part is joined to a second end of said second part and said second component includes a first element and a second element, said first element being joined to a first inner surface of said first part and said second element being joined to a second inner surface of said second part.
