Automatic playback overshoot correction system
Abstract
An automatic playback overshoot correction system predicts the position in the program material where the user expects to be when the user stops the fast forward progression of the program material. The system determines the position where the program material was stopped and transitions to the new mode that the user selected, starting at the stopped position with an overshoot correction factor subtracted from it. The system uses a prediction method to correctly place the user within the program upon transition out of fast forward mode and determines if the speed of the fast forward mode and then automatically subtracts a time multiple to the frame where the transition was detected and positions the user at the correct frame. The time multiple is fine tuned if the user is consistently correcting after the fast forward mode stops.

14 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured, when receiving the selection of the option, to:
generate for display, a second option to receive a number of future programs of the series of programs to record; and receive an indication of the number of future programs to record.
15 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured, when generating the notification, to:
receive a second command to record a second program; determine whether a first broadcast time of the program overlaps with a second broadcast time of the second program; and in response to determining that the first broadcast time of the first program conflicts with the second broadcast time of the second program:
generate for display, an option to select the program or the second program for recording;
receive a selection of the option; and
record the program or the second program based on the selection.
16 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions encoded thereon that when executed by control circuitry causes the control circuitry to:
receive a command to record a program; in response to receiving the command to record the program:
determine that the program is a program of the series of programs;
identify each future program of the series of programs;
generate for display, an option to schedule a recording for each future program in the series of programs;
receive a selection of the option; and
