Abstract
A composite vehicle component. The composite vehicle component includes a polymer matrix and carbon spheres dispersed throughout the polymer matrix. The carbon spheres have a diameter of 10 to 400 μm and include at least 90 wt. % carbon.

a polymer matrix; and carbon spheres dispersed throughout the polymer matrix, the carbon spheres having a diameter of 10 to 400 μm and including at least 90 wt. % carbon.
2 . The composite vehicle component of claim 1 , wherein the carbon spheres are hollow carbon spheres.
3 . The composite vehicle component of claim 2 , wherein each hollow carbon sphere has a gas-filled core.
4 . The composite vehicle component of claim 1 , wherein the diameter of each carbon sphere is 10 to 300 μm.
5 . The composite vehicle component of claim 1 , wherein each carbon sphere is coated with a sizing.
6 . The composite vehicle component of claim 1 , wherein in each carbon sphere includes crystallized carbon molecules.
7 . The composite vehicle component of claim 1 , wherein the carbon spheres are solid carbon spheres.
8 . A composite vehicle component, comprising:
a first carrier film including a first polymer layer and a first resin layer; a second carrier film including a second polymer layer and a second resin layer; and carbon spheres dispersed between the first and second carrier films and having a diameter of 10 to 400 μm and including at least 90 wt. % carbon.
9 . The composite vehicle component of claim 8 , wherein the carbon spheres are hollow carbon spheres.
10 . The composite vehicle component of claim 9 , wherein each hollow carbon sphere has a gas-filled core.
11 . The composite vehicle component of claim 8 , wherein the diameter of each carbon sphere is 10 to 300 μm.
12 . The composite vehicle component of claim 8 , wherein each carbon sphere is coated with a sizing.
13 . The composite vehicle component of claim 8 , wherein in each carbon sphere includes crystallized carbon molecules.
14 . The composite vehicle component of claim 8 , wherein the carbon spheres are solid spheres.
15 . A composite vehicle component, comprising:
a solidified polymer matrix; and carbon spheres dispersed throughout the solidified polymer matrix and including at least 90 wt. % carbon.
16 . The composite vehicle component of claim 15 , wherein the carbon spheres are hollow spheres.
17 . The composite vehicle component of claim 16 , wherein each hollow sphere has a gas-filled core.
18 . The composite vehicle component of claim 15 , wherein each carbon sphere has a diameter of 10 to 300 μm.
19 . The composite vehicle component of claim 15 , wherein each carbon sphere is coated with a sizing.
