Abstract

A variety of apparel designs for infants and small children, specifically clothing designed to be worn while a child is sleeping to enhance the quality of sleep, regulate temperature, and/or improve the duration of restful sleep. Individual features disclosed herein such as venting, adjustable sleeves, adjustable leggings, and stays may be combined in such a manner to produce articles of clothing having combinations of two or more disclosed features.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A sleep suit for in infant, comprising:
 an inner lining having arm portions, leg portions, and a torso portion;   an outer shell disposed over the inner lining; and   at least one fill layer disposed between the inner lining and the outer shell, the fill layer having at least one portion which has a greater weight of material than the other portions of the fill layer.   
     
     
         2 . The sleep suit of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one portion of fill layer which has a greater weight is positioned over the arm portions. 
     
     
         3 . The sleep suit of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one portion of fill layer which has a greater weight is positioned over the leg portions. 
     
     
         4 . The sleep suit of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one portion of fill layer which has a greater weight is positioned over the torso portion. 
     
     
         5 . The sleep suit of  claim 4 , wherein the torso portion as an anterior side and a posterior side, and the at least one portion of fill layer which has a greater weight is positioned over the anterior side of the torso portion. 
     
     
         6 . The sleep suit of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one ventilation feature. 
     
     
         7 . The sleep suit of  claim 6 , wherein the at least one ventilation feature comprises an opening in the outer shell, inner lining, and at least one fill layer covered with a mesh material. 
     
     
         8 . The sleep suit of  claim 7 , wherein the at least one ventilation feature is securably closable. 
     
     
         9 . The sleep suit of  claim 8 , wherein the at least one ventilation feature is securably closable using one of a zipper, snaps, buttons, or hook and loop material. 
     
     
         10 . The sleep suit of  claim 9 , wherein the at least one ventilation feature is positioned along the torso portion of the sleep suit between an arm portion and a leg portion. 
     
     
         11 . The sleep suit of  claim 7 , wherein the torso portion of the sleep suit has an anterior side and a posterior side, and the at least one ventilation feature is positioned along the posterior side of the torso portion. 
     
     
         12 . A sleep suit for an infant, comprising:
 an inner lining having arm portions, leg portions, and a torso portion;   an outer shell disposed over the inner lining;   at least one fill layer disposed between the inner lining and the outer shell; and   at least one feature for dampening the startle reflex in an infant disposed between the inner lining and the outer shell.   
     
     
         13 . The sleep suit of  claim 12 , wherein the at least one feature for dampening the startle reflex in an infant comprises material in at least one portion of the fill layer having a greater weight than material in other portions of the fill layer. 
     
     
         14 . The sleep suit of  claim 12 , wherein the at least one feature for dampening the startle reflex in an infant comprises one or more stays disposed between the inner lining and outer shell. 
     
     
         15 . The sleep suit of  claim 14 , wherein the one or more stays are disposed in the arm portions of the sleep suit. 
     
     
         16 . The sleep suit of  claim 14 , wherein the one or more stays are disposed in the leg portions of the sleep suit. 
     
     
         17 . The sleep suit of  claim 12 , further comprising at least one ventilation feature. 
     
     
         18 . The sleep suit of  claim 17 , wherein the at least one ventilation feature comprises an opening in the outer shell, inner lining, and at least one fill layer covered with a mesh material.
