Abstract

The present invention further provides a method of treating, alleviating or preventing a disorder of mammalian subject, comprising administering the above-mentioned compositions to an afflicted target site.

         53 . A composition in a canister, comprising:
 1) a foamable composition, wherein:
 a) 10% to 70% by weight of the foamable composition is an organic carrier comprising:
 i) at least one hydrophobic organic carrier comprising a triglyceride; and 
 ii) at least one polar solvent comprising dimethyl isosorbide; 
 
 b) the foamable composition comprises at least one surface active agent; 
 c) the foamable composition comprises water, and 
   2) at least one liquefied or compressed gas propellant present in an amount of 3% to 25% by weight of the total composition,   wherein upon release from the canister, a thermally stable, shear-force breakable foam is formed.   
     
     
         54 . The composition according to  claim 53 , further comprising 15% by weight of the foamable composition of an active agent. 
     
     
         55 . The composition according to  claim 54 , wherein the active agent comprises an anti-infective agent, an antibiotic agent, an antibacterial agent, an anti-fungal agent, an anti-viral agent, and/or an anti-parasite agent. 
     
     
         56 . The composition according to  claim 55 , wherein the active agent comprises an antibacterial agent. 
     
     
         57 . The composition according to  claim 56 , wherein the antibacterial agent comprises azelaic acid at an amount of 15% by weight of the foamable composition. 
     
     
         58 . The composition according to  claim 53 , further comprising a polymeric agent. 
     
     
         59 . The composition according to  claim 58 , wherein the polymeric agent comprises a bioadhesive agent, a gelling agent, a film forming agent, and/or a phase change agent. 
     
     
         60 . The composition according to  claim 58 , wherein the polymeric agent is present in an amount ranging from 0.01% to 5% by weight of the foamable composition. 
     
     
         61 . The composition according to  claim 53 , wherein the at least one surface active agent comprises an anionic surface active agent, a cationic surface active agent, a nonionic surface active agent, a zwitterionic surface active agent, an amphoteric surface active agent, and/or an ampholytic surface active agent. 
     
     
         62 . The composition according to  claim 61 , wherein the at least one surface active agent comprises a non-ionic surface active agent. 
     
     
         63 . The composition according to  claim 62 , wherein the non-ionic surface active agent has an HLB value of less than 9. 
     
     
         64 . The composition according to  claim 62 , wherein the non-ionic surface active agent comprises a polysorbate, a mono or diglyceride, and/or a poly(oxyethylene) fatty acid ester. 
     
     
         65 . The composition according to  claim 62 , wherein the at least one surface active agent further comprises an ionic surface active agent. 
     
     
         66 . The composition according to  claim 65 , wherein the ionic surface active agent comprises sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, sodium methyl oleoyl taurate, sodium lauryl sulfate, triethanolamine lauryl sulfate, and/or betaine. 
     
     
         67 . The composition according to  claim 53 , wherein the at least one surface active agent is present in an amount ranging from 0.1% to 5% by weight of the foamable composition. 
     
     
         68 . The composition according to  claim 67 , wherein the at least one surface active agent is present in an amount of less than 2% by weight of the foamable composition. 
     
     
         69 . The composition according to  claim 67 , wherein the at least one surface active agent is present in an amount of less than 1% by weight of the foamable composition. 
     
     
         70 . The composition according to  claim 53 , further comprising a foam adjuvant. 
     
     
         71 . The composition according to  claim 70 , wherein the foam adjuvant comprises a fatty alcohol having 15 or more carbon atoms. 
     
     
         72 . The composition according to  claim 70 , wherein the foam adjuvant comprises a fatty acid having 16 or more carbon atoms. 
     
     
         73 . The composition according to  claim 70 , wherein the foam adjuvant is present in an amount ranging from 0.1% to 5% by weight of the foamable composition. 
     
     
         74 . The composition according to  claim 71 , wherein the fatty alcohol having 15 or more carbon atoms comprises cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, or a mixture thereof. 
     
     
         75 . The composition according to  claim 53 , wherein the at least one polar solvent comprises propylene glycol present in an amount ranging from 15% to 60% by weight of the foamable composition. 
     
     
         76 . The composition according to  claim 53 , wherein the triglyceride comprises capric/caprylic triglyceride. 
     
     
         77 . The composition according to  claim 53 , wherein the ratio of the polar solvent to the hydrophobic organic carrier is between 1:4 and 4:1. 
     
     
         78 . The composition according to  claim 53 , wherein the thermally stable, shear-force breakable foam has a specific gravity of less than 0.12 g/mL. 
     
     
         79 . The composition according to  claim 53 , further comprising an excipient chosen from a stabilizing agent, an antioxidant, a humectant, a preservative, a colorant agent, an odorant agent, a pH adjuster, and a mixture of any two or more thereof. 
     
     
         80 . The composition according to  claim 53 , wherein the foamable composition does not comprise at least one component chosen from a urea, a mineral oil, a hydroxy acid, a propylene glycol, PEG-40 stearate, Polysorbate 80, and a humectant or moisture-retaining agent. 
     
     
         81 . A composition in a canister comprising:
 1) a foamable composition, wherein:
 a) 10% to 70% by weight of the foamable composition is an organic carrier comprising:
 i) the foamable composition comprises at least one hydrophobic organic carrier comprising capric/caprylic triglyceride; and 
 ii) 15% to 60% by weight of the foamable composition is at least one polar solvent comprising dimethyl isosorbide; 
 
 b) 0.1% to 5% by weight of the foamable composition of at least one surface active agent comprising a non-ionic surface active agent; 
 c) 0.1% to 5% by weight of the foamable composition of a polymeric agent comprising a bioadhesive agent, a gelling agent, a film forming agent, and/or a phase change agent; 
 d) 0.1% to 5% by weight of the foamable composition of at least one foam adjuvant comprising cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, and/or a mixture thereof; 
 e) 15% by weight of the foamable composition of an active agent comprising azelaic acid; 
 f) water, and 
   2) at least one liquefied or compressed gas propellant present in an amount of 3% to 25% by weight of the total composition,   wherein upon release from the canister, a thermally stable, shear-force breakable foam is formed having a specific gravity of less than 0.12 g/mL; and   wherein the non-ionic surface active agent has an HLB value of less than 9.
