Abstract
An interpolated roughening cutting tool includes a body having at least first and second cutting elements coupled thereto. The first cutting element includes rectangular cutting teeth. The second cutting element includes non-rectangular cutting teeth. The first and second cutting elements are configured to create grooves in a surface that have a top portion with blunt edge surfaces.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An interpolated roughening cutting tool, comprising:
a body having at least first and second cutting elements coupled thereto; the first cutting element including rectangular cutting teeth; and the second cutting element including non-rectangular cutting teeth, the first and second cutting elements are configured to create grooves in a surface that have a top portion with blunt edge surfaces.
2 . The tool of claim 1 , wherein the first and second cutting elements are configured to create grooves with chamfered edges having a chamfer angle and a chamfer length.
3 . The tool of claim 2 , wherein the chamfer angle is 20 to 70 degrees.
4 . The tool of claim 2 , wherein the chamfer length is at most ⅓ of a maximum groove peak width.
5 . The tool of claim 1 , wherein the rectangular cutting teeth are configured to create groove sides that are substantially perpendicular to the surface.
6 . The tool of claim 1 , further comprising third, fourth, fifth, and sixth cutting elements.
7 . The tool of claim 6 , wherein the third cutting element includes rectangular cutting teeth offset from the cutting teeth of the first cutting element.
8 . The tool of claim 6 , wherein the fourth cutting element includes non-rectangular cutting teeth offset from the cutting teeth of the second cutting element.
9 . The tool of claim 6 , wherein the fifth and sixth cutting elements each include a substantially flat cutting surface.
10 . The tool of claim 6 , wherein the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth cutting elements are equally spaced around the body.
11 . The tool of claim 6 , wherein the first and third cutting elements are adjacent to each other, and the second and fourth cutting elements are adjacent to each other.
12 . An interpolated roughening cutting tool, comprising:
a body having at least first and second cutting elements coupled thereto; the first cutting element including rectangular cutting teeth; and the second cutting element including curved cutting teeth having a peak and two concave sides extending therefrom, the rectangular cutting teeth are configured to create groove sides that are substantially perpendicular to a surface, and the curved cutting teeth are configured to create rounded groove edges.
13 . The tool of claim 12 , further comprising third, fourth, fifth, and sixth cutting elements.
14 . The tool of claim 13 , wherein the third cutting element includes rectangular cutting teeth offset from the cutting teeth of the first cutting element.
15 . The tool of claim 13 , wherein the fourth cutting element includes non-rectangular cutting teeth offset from the cutting teeth of the second cutting element.
16 . The tool of claim 13 , wherein the first and third cutting elements are adjacent to each other, and the second and fourth cutting elements are adjacent to each other.
17 . An interpolated roughening cutting tool, comprising:
a body having at least first and second cutting elements coupled thereto; the first cutting element including rectangular cutting teeth; and the second cutting element including triangular cutting teeth, the rectangular cutting teeth are configured to create groove sides that are substantially perpendicular to a surface, and the triangular cutting teeth are configured to create chamfered edges.
18 . The tool of claim 17 , wherein the first and second cutting elements are configured to create grooves with chamfered edges having a chamfer angle and a chamfer length.
19 . The tool of claim 18 , wherein the chamfer angle is 20 to 70 degrees.
20 . The tool of claim 18 , wherein the chamfer length is at most ⅓ of a maximum groove peak width.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
