Abstract

A novel gene 0161P2F10B (also designated 161P2F10B) and its encoded protein, and variants thereof, are described wherein 161P2F10B exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, and is aberrantly expressed in the cancers listed in Table I. Consequently, 161P2F10B provides a diagnostic, prognostic, prophylactic and/or therapeutic target for cancer. The 161P2F10B gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein, or variants thereof, or a fragment thereof, can be used to elicit a humoral or cellular immune response; antibodies or T cells reactive with 161P2F10B can be used in active or passive immunization.

1 . An isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof that immunospecifically binds to an epitope on a 161P2F10B protein comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 17. 
     
     
         2 . A method of generating an immune response against a 161P2F10B-related protein comprising administering a 161P2F10B immunogen in a vaccine preparation to a human or another mammal. 
     
     
         3 . A method of detecting the presence of a 161P2F10B-related protein in a biological sample comprising contacting the sample with a 161P2F10B antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof and then detecting the binding of the 161P2F10B antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof to the 161P2F10B-related protein in the sample.
