Abstract

Systems and methods for time and location based authentication of a number associated with an object. An example method includes receiving a verification request from a requestor that includes a time-location stamp and a number obtained from the object and verifying that the number exists in a data store of numbers generated for objects by a product owner. The method also includes determining whether the time-location stamp is outside a constraint set by the product owner. Responsive to the time-location stamp being outside the constraint the authentication probability is set to a value indicating inauthenticity. Responsive to the time-location stamp being within the constraint, the method includes calculating an authenticity probability based on a velocity determined using the time-location stamp and storing the authenticity probability with the time-location stamp in the data store. The method may also include providing the authenticity probability to the requestor.

What is claimed is:

         1 . A method comprising:
receiving an authentication request from a requestor, the verification request including a time-location stamp and a number obtained from an object; verifying that the number exists in a data store of numbers for objects generated by a product owner; determining whether the time-location stamp is outside a constraint set by the product owner; responsive to determining the time-location stamp is outside the constraint, setting an authenticity probability for the number in the data store to a value indicating inauthenticity; responsive to determining the time-location stamp is not outside the constraint:
calculating an authenticity probability for the number based on a velocity determined using the time-location stamp, and
storing the authenticity probability with the time-location stamp for the number in the data store; and
providing an indication of the authenticity probability to the requestor.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining whether a minimum wait time has been reached since a previous verification request; and responsive to determining that the minimum wait time has been reached, determining whether the time-location stamp is outside the constraint.
