Abstract

A method of smoking a smoking article comprising a filter containing a carbon sorbent and a tobacco rod containing at least one alkanoylated glycoside in a smoking composition comprising tobacco, the method comprising combusting the tobacco and passing tobacco smoke through the filter. Optionally, dry hops extract can also be included in the smoking composition.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

1 . A method of smoking a smoking article comprising a filter containing a carbon sorbent and a tobacco rod containing at least one alkanoylated glycoside in a smoking composition comprising tobacco wherein the at least one alkanoylated glycoside is of the formula

and wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are selected from the group consisting of C1-C6 alkyl groups and H, and R5 is selected from the group consisting of H, a C1-C6 acyl group, a C1-C6 alkyl group, an aroyl group and an aryl group, the method comprising:
combusting the tobacco rod and passing tobacco smoke through the filter.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein ventilation holes are located along the smoking article.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the cut filler includes dry hops extract.

         4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each of R1, R2, R3, and R4 is the same C1-C6 alkyl group.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 are methyl groups and R5 is an acetyl group.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the alkanoylated glycoside is included in the smoking composition in an amount ranging from about 100 mg/kg of tobacco to about 300 mg/kg of tobacco.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the alkanoylated glycoside is included in the smoking composition in an amount ranging from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight based on the weight of the smoking composition.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the carbon sorbent comprises beads, carbon particles, carbon granules, or combinations thereof.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the carbon sorbent comprises activated carbon on tow or carbon paper.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the carbon sorbent is included in said smoking article in an amount of about 30 mg to about 200 mg.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said smoking article is a cigarette.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the smoking composition further includes at least one humectant.

13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the smoking composition further includes at least one sweetener.

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the smoking composition further includes at least one non-tobacco flavorant.

15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the smoking composition further includes at least one coloring agent.

16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the smoking composition further includes at least one binder.
