Abstract

The invention is directed to isolated renal cells, including tubular and erythropoietin (EPO)-producing kidney cell populations, and methods of isolating and culturing the same, as well as methods of treating a subject in need with the cell populations.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 66 . (canceled)

67 . An isolated, enriched renal cell population derived from a mammalian kidney sample,
wherein the isolated, enriched renal cell population is enriched for renal tubular cells; and wherein the isolated, enriched renal cell population further comprises collecting duct cells, endocrine cells, vascular cells, and glomerular cells.

68 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 , wherein the renal tubular cells comprise proximal tubular cells and distal tubular cells.

69 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 68 , wherein the proximal tubular cells and distal tubule cells comprise approximately 90% of cells of the isolated, enriched population.

70 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 , wherein the collecting duct cells comprise approximately 10% of cells of the isolated, enriched population.

71 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 , wherein the renal tubular cells express of one or more of hyaluronic acid synthase 2, Vitamin D3 25-Hydroxylase, megalin, cubilin, N-cadherin, E-cadherin, Aquaporin-1, Aquaporin-2 and Aquaporin-4.

72 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 , wherein the isolated, enriched renal cell population comprises cells that express hyaluronic synthase-2.

73 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 , wherein the renal tubular cells are capable of albumin uptake.

74 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 , wherein the isolated, enriched renal cell population comprises cells that are hypoxia-resistant.

75 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 , wherein the isolated, enriched renal cell population comprises cells that are iodixanol-resistant

76 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 , wherein the mammalian kidney sample is a human kidney sample.

77 . The isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 76 , wherein the human kidney sample is a kidney biopsy sample.

78 . An implantable construct comprising the isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 and a biomaterial.

79 . The implantable construct of claim 78 , wherein the biomaterial is a polymeric matrix.

80 . The implantable construct of claim 78 , wherein the biomaterial is a scaffold.

81 . The implantable construct of claim 78 , wherein the biomaterial is configured as a liquid hydrogel suspension.

82 . The implantable construct of claim 78 , wherein the biomaterial is configured as a porous foam.

83 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising the isolated, enriched renal cell population of claim 67 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
