Abstract

A system and method for adapting the look, feel, and behavior of a mobile application based on the user, location or environment in which it is used.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A hand-held portable device comprising:
 a display;   one or more processors; and   one or more computer-readable hardware storage media having stored thereon computer-executable instructions that are executable by the one or more processors to cause the hand-held portable device to provide merchant specific functionality for a plurality of different merchants by causing the hand-held portable device to:
 determine a current location of the hand-held portable device; 
 based on the current location of the hand-held portable device, determine that the hand-held portable device is within a specified region relative to a location of a merchant; 
 in response to the hand-held portable device being located within the specified region relative to the merchant's location, determine that one or more application settings are to be applied to an adaptive application operable with the hand-held portable device, wherein:
 the one or more application settings are merchant specific settings associated with the merchant, and 
 the one or more application settings, when applied, at least cause a visual watermark associated with the merchant to be displayed on the display of the hand-held portable device; and 
 
 apply the one or more application settings to the adaptive application, wherein applying the one or more application settings includes displaying the visual watermark on the hand-held portable device's display.
