Abstract

The present invention relates to a hood for use in a garment that deploys/retracts easily and retracts unobtrusively. Such a hood can improve the “stackability” of the hood or a garment incorporating such a hood. Therefore, the teachings herein cover both a garment with such a hood, and such a hood for attachment to a garment. The hood comprises: (a) a first edge and a second edge, at least a portion of the second edge being opposite the first edge; and (b) a first seam disposed between the first edge and the second edge, wherein the first seam does not extend from the first edge or the second edge and does not extend to the first edge or the second edge. The second seam and the first seam can form a shape such as a T-shape, a Y-shape, an arrow-shape, or a shape substantially similar thereto.

What is claimed is:

1 . A hood for use in a garment, the hood comprising:
 (a) a first edge and a second edge, at least a portion of the second edge being opposite the first edge; and (b) a first seam disposed between the first edge and the second edge, wherein the first seam does not extend from the first edge or the second edge, and wherein the first seam does not extend to the first edge or the second edge.

2 . The hood as claimed in claim 1 , the hood further comprising a second seam, the second seam extending between the first edge and the first seam.

3 . The hood as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the second seam extends from the first edge and extends to the first seam.

4 . The hood as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the second seam and the first seam form a shape selected from the group consisting of a T-shape, a Y-shape, an arrow-shape, and a shape substantially similar thereto.

5 . The hood as claimed in claim 2 , wherein no portion of the second seam extends between the first seam and the second edge.

6 . The hood as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first seam comprises one or more darts.

7 . The hood as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the second seam is a centre hood seam.

8 . A garment comprising: (a) a body; and (b) the hood as claimed in claim 1 adapted for coupling to the body.

9 . The garment as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the first edge of the hood is coupled to the body to form a neckline connection.

10 . The garment as claimed in claim 9 , wherein a second seam extends from the neckline connection to the first seam.

11 . The garment as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the neckline connection is a neckline seam.

12 . The garment as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the hood is fixedly coupled to the body.

13 . The garment as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the hood is releasably coupled to the body.
