Abstract
A muffler for single-cylinder diesel engines with an integrated oxidation catalyst is provided, such that the muffler is connected to the cylinder head of the engine, that the muffler housing is divided into two chambers, that is, an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber, by means of an intermediate wall and that the oxidation catalyst is secured in the intermediate wall such that it fludically connects together both chambers.

1 . A muffler for a single-cylinder diesel engine having an oxidation catalyst in the muffler housing, which is attached to the cylinder head of the engine, wherein the muffler housing is divided by an intermediate wall ( 3 ) into two chambers and the oxidation catalyst ( 28 ) is fastened in the intermediate wall ( 3 ) in such a way that it places two chambers fluidically in communication with one another, and wherein an outlet chamber ( 5 ) of the muffler, connected downstream from the intermediate wall ( 3 ) in flow direction, is joined in gas-tight manner to an outlet pipe ( 10 ) for the post-treated exhaust gas, wherein:
the muffler housing is attached by means of a flanged joint directly to the cylinder head and the intermediate wall ( 3 ) has openings for gas-tight installation of mounting pipes ( 14 ), which traverse the muffler housing and at their engine-side ends are fastened to the inside of a muffler-side attachment flange ( 9 ) in association with its joint bores ( 15 ), for the purpose of applying a screw coupling of the attachment flange ( 9 ) to a corresponding flange part of the cylinder head.
2 . The muffler of claim 1 , wherein the muffler-side attachment flange ( 9 ) is welded at its lateral periphery in a gas-tight manner to an embossment ( 22 ) of the muffler housing encircling it.
3 . The muffler of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate wall ( 3 ) is fastened in a gas-tight manner between two housing parts of the muffler housing.
4 . The muffler of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate wall ( 3 ) has an opening for the penetration, in a gas-tight manner, of the catalyst body ( 28 ).
5 . The muffler of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate wall ( 3 ) has an opening for receiving the closed inner end of the exhaust pipe ( 10 ) in a gas-tight manner.
6 . The muffler of claim 5 , wherein the inner end of the outlet pipe ( 10 ) projects into an inlet chamber ( 4 ) of the muffler housing connected upstream from the intermediate wall ( 3 ) and is braced displaceably there in an associated indentation of the housing rear wall ( 1 ) of the muffler housing.
7 . The muffler of claim 1 , wherein the outlet pipe ( 10 ) is designed to be perforated in its portion inside the outlet chamber ( 5 ) of the muffler housing.
8 . The muffler of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate wall ( 3 ) is designed to be dish-shaped with convex bulge toward the exhaust gas flowing into the inlet chamber ( 4 ) of the muffler.Cited by (0)
