Abstract

Displaying a comparison of genetic data is disclosed, including receiving an indication of a first individual, receiving an indication of a second individual, retrieving the genotypic information for the first individual and the second individual, comparing the genotypic information of the first individual and the second individual, displaying an indication of the comparison of the genotypic information of the first individual and the second individual graphically. A first graphical symbol is used to display an indication of the genome regions for which the first individual and the second individual are identical. A second graphical symbol is used to display an indication of the genome regions for which the first individual and the second individual are half identical.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method for displaying a comparison of genetic data, comprising
receiving an indication of a first individual; receiving an indication of a second individual; retrieving the genotypic information for the first individual and the second individual; comparing the genotypic information of the first individual and the second individual; displaying an indication of the comparison of the genotypic information of the first individual and the second individual graphically, wherein:
a first graphical symbol is used to display an indication of the genome regions for which the first individual and the second individual are identical; and
a second graphical symbol is used to display an indication of the genome regions for which the first individual and the second individual are half identical.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving an indication of the type of genotypic information for which an indication of the comparison should be displayed; and displaying an indication of the similarity of the first individual and second individual for the type of genotypic information received.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising displaying a list of types of genotypic information and wherein receiving an indication of the type of genotypic information for which an indication of the comparison should be displayed comprises receiving an indication that a user has selected one of the items in the displayed list.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein receiving an indication of the type of genotypic information for which an indication of the comparison should be displayed comprises receiving an indication that the genes for a particular trait should be compared.

5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein receiving an indication of the type of genotypic information for which an indication of the comparison should be displayed comprises receiving an indication that user-selected genetic data should be compared.

6 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the list of types of genome information includes one or more of the following: bitter tasting, circadian rhythm, endurance, female fertility, immune system compatibility, non-bitter tasting, pigmentation, and weight body mass index.

7 . The method of claim 2 wherein receiving an indication of a type of genotypic information, for which an indication of the comparison should be displayed, comprises receiving an indication of a user-specified type of genotypic information to be compared.

8 . The method of claim 1 wherein the first graphical symbol comprises a first color; and the second graphical symbol comprises a second color.

9 . The method of claim 1 wherein the first graphical symbol and the second graphical symbol comprise the same shape.

10 . The method of claim 1 wherein the first graphical symbol comprises a first shape; and the second graphical symbol comprises a second shape.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first graphical symbol comprises using a rectangle of a first width; and the second graphical symbol comprises using a rectangle of a second width.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying an indication of the similarity between the first individual and the second individual graphically further comprises displaying an indication of the twenty-three or other number of chromosome pairs in the human body separately.

13 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising using a third graphical symbol to display an indication of the genomic regions for which the first individual and the second individual are not identical.

14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising using a third graphical symbol to display an indication of the locations on the twenty-three or other number of chromosome pair in which there is not enough data to make a determination.

15 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying an indication of which locations in a chromosome pair are associated with a particular type of genotypic information

16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying an indication of the similarity between first individual and the second individual graphically further comprises displaying the information separately for each one of the pair of DNA sequences making up the chromosome pair. A system for displaying a comparison of genetic data, comprising a processor configured to:
receive an indication of a first individual; receive an indication of a second individual; retrieve the genotypic information for the first individual and the second individual; compare the genotypic information of the first individual and the second individual; display an indication of the comparison of the genotypic information of the first individual and the second individual graphically, wherein:
a first graphical symbol is used to display an indication of the genome regions for which the first individual and the second individual are identical; and
a second graphical symbol is used to display an indication of the genome regions for which the first individual and the second individual are half identical; and
a memory coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

17 . A computer program product for displaying a comparison of genetic data, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:
receiving an indication of a first individual; receiving an indication of a second individual; retrieving the genotypic information for the first individual and the second individual; comparing the genotypic information of the first individual and the second individual; displaying an indication of the comparison of the genotypic information of the first individual and the second individual graphically, wherein: a first graphical symbol is used to display an indication of the genome regions for which the first individual and the second individual are identical; and a second graphical symbol is used to display an indication of the genome regions for which the first individual and the second individual are half identical.
