Abstract

The invention relates to a method for editing a media record in a terminal device of a cellular network, which editing means removing at least one portion of the original contents of the media record. The state of the editing is shown on the display of the terminal device with a pointer arrangement according to the invention. The invention also relates to a cellular network terminal device in which the method is utilized. In the terminal device the media record editing is controlled with a program application according to the invention.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method for editing a video media record on a terminal device comprising:
 playing the video media record on the terminal device, comprising displaying a current location in the video media record; during the playing of the video media record, displaying a pointer line indicating an uncut length of the video media record, on which a location pointer indicates a position of the displayed current location in the video media record being played; setting a start mark along the pointer line responsive to a user input at the terminal device; setting an end mark along the pointer line responsive to a user input at the terminal device; after the setting of the start mark and the stop mark, advancing the playing of the video media record image-by-image in either a forward or a reverse direction within the video media responsive to a user input at the terminal device; and then causing the saving of a portion of the video media record indicated by the start and marks.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 after the saving of the portion of the video media record and responsive to a user input at the terminal device, displaying a menu with a plurality of options comprising playing the entire video media record and playing the saved portion of the video media record.

         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the playing step plays the video media record on a touch-screen display of the terminal device;
 wherein the setting of the start mark is responsive to a user input at a first key of the touch-screen display; wherein the setting of the end mark is responsive to a user input at a second key of the touch-screen display; and wherein the displaying of the menu is responsive to a user input at a third key of the touch-screen display.

         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the playing step plays the video media record on a touch-screen display of the terminal device;
 wherein the setting of the start mark is responsive to a user input at a first key of the touch-screen display; and wherein the setting of the end mark is responsive to a user input at a second key of the touch-screen display.

         5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the step of setting the start mark comprises:
 in a first presentation mode prior to the setting of the start mark, associating the first key with the setting of a start mark; and responsive to a user input at the first key, setting a start mark along the pointer line at the then-current position of the location pointer.

         6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the step of setting the end mark comprises:
 in a second presentation mode in which the location pointer is positioned after the start mark along the pointer line, associating the second key with the setting of an end mark; and responsive to a user input at the second key, setting an end mark along the pointer line at the then-current position of the location pointer.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 after the setting of the start mark and the stop mark, advancing the playing of the video media record by fast winding in either a forward or a reverse direction within the video media responsive to a user input at the terminal device.

         8 . A terminal device, comprising:
 a display; a user interface for receiving user input; a memory configured to store software for editing video media on the device; and a control unit communicatively coupled to the display, the user interface, and the memory, the control unit configured to execute the software stored in the memory to:
 play a selected video, comprising displaying a current location in the video on the display;
 during the playing of the video media, display a pointer line indicating an uncut length of the video, on which a location pointer indicates a position of the displayed current location in the video being played;
 set a start mark along the pointer line responsive to a user input at the terminal device;
 set an end mark along the pointer line responsive to a user input at the terminal device;
 after the setting of the start mark and the stop mark, advance the playing of the video image-by-image in either a forward or a reverse direction within the video media responsive to a user input at the terminal device; and
 then cause a portion of the video media record indicated by the start and end marks to be saved.

         9 . The terminal device of claim 8 , wherein the control unit is further configured to execute the software stored in the memory to:
 after the saving of the portion of the video media record and responsive to a user input at the terminal device, displaying a menu with a plurality of options comprising playing the entire video media record and playing the saved portion of the video media record.

         10 . The terminal device of  claim 2 , wherein the display comprises a touch-screen display and the user interface comprises keys displayed on the touch-screen display;
 wherein the setting of the start mark is responsive to a user input at a first key of the touch-screen display; wherein the setting of the end mark is responsive to a user input at a second key of the touch-screen display; and wherein the displaying of the menu is responsive to a user input at a third key of the touch-screen display.

         11 . The terminal device of  claim 8 , wherein the display comprises a touch-screen display and the user interface comprises keys displayed on the touch-screen display;
 wherein the setting of the start mark is responsive to a user input at a first key of the touch-screen display; and wherein the setting of the end mark is responsive to a user input at a second key of the touch-screen display.

         12 . The terminal device of claim 11 , wherein the control unit is further configured to execute the software stored in the memory to set the start mark by:
 in a first presentation mode prior to the setting of the start mark, associating the first key with the setting of a start mark; and responsive to a user input at the first key, setting a start mark along the pointer line at the then-current position of the location pointer.

         13 . The terminal device of claim 12 , wherein the control unit is further configured to execute the software stored in the memory to set the end mark by:
 in a second presentation mode in which the location pointer is positioned after the start mark along the pointer line, associating the second key with the setting of an end mark; and responsive to a user input at the second key, setting an end mark along the pointer line at the then-current position of the location pointer.

         14 . The terminal device of claim 8 , wherein the control unit is further configured to execute the software stored in the memory to:
 after the setting of the start mark and the stop mark, advance the playing of the video by fast winding in either a forward or a reverse direction within the video media responsive to a user input at the user interface.
