Pharmaceutical Compositions Comprising Sorbitan Esters

Abstract

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising sorbitan esters of carboxylic acids that are useful for the delivery of anti-psychotic drugs.

         41 . A method for treating schizophrenia in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising:
 (a) 20-30 weight percent compound A-7:   
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         (b) 0.2-1 weight percent sorbitan laurate; 
         (c) 0.05-0.8 weight percent polysorbate 20; and 
         (d) an aqueous carrier, 
         wherein the composition forms an aqueous, flocculated, injectable suspension. 
       
     
     
         42 . The method of  claim 41 , wherein the ratio of components (b) to (c) is 5:1 to 1:1, by weight. 
     
     
         43 . The method of  claim 41 , comprising 0.4-0.7 weight percent sorbitan laurate. 
     
     
         44 . The method of  claim 41 , comprising 0.1-0.3 weight percent polysorbate 20. 
     
     
         45 . A method for treating bipolar disorder in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising:
 (a) 20-30 weight percent compound A-7:   
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         (b) 0.2-1 weight percent sorbitan laurate; 
         (c) 0.05-0.8 weight percent polysorbate 20; and 
         (d) an aqueous carrier,

         46 . The method of  claim 45 , wherein the ratio of components (b) to (c) is 5:1 to 1:1, by weight.

         49 . A method for treating depression in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising:

         (c) 0.05-0.8 weight percent polysorbate 20; and

         53 . A method for treating anxiety, autism-related irritability, or acute mania in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising:
