Method for providing personalized information and public information

Abstract

A server and a method are provided for providing personalized information in a content providing system. The server includes a communicator; and a controller configured to, based on a user input being input to a user apparatus for receiving personalized information, receive through the communicator information from the user apparatus, perform authentication on the user apparatus based on the received information, and based on the authentication being successful, control the communicator to transmit the personalized information corresponding to the authentication to the user apparatus. The personalized information depends on the authentication.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A server comprising:
 a communicator; and   a controller configured to:   based on a user input being input to a user apparatus for receiving personalized information, receive through the communicator information from the user apparatus, perform authentication on the user apparatus based on the received information, and based on the authentication being successful, control the communicator to transmit the personalized information corresponding to the authentication to the user apparatus,   wherein the personalized information depends on the authentication.   
     
     
         2 . The server of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to transmit to a first user apparatus a first personalized information corresponding to a first authentication on the first user apparatus and transmit to a second user apparatus a second personalized information corresponding to a second authentication on the second user apparatus,
 wherein the first personalized information is different from the second personalized information.   
     
     
         3 . The server of  claim 1 , further comprising a storage configured to store a user profile database including user profiles corresponding to a plurality of user apparatus,
 wherein the controller is further configured to:   obtain a user profile corresponding to the received apparatus information from among the user profiles, based on the received information from the user apparatus, and   transmit, to the user apparatus, the personalized information corresponding to the obtained user profile.   
     
     
         4 . The server of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to control the communicator to transmit content to a display apparatus through a set top box (STB), and
 wherein the user input is input to the user apparatus while the content is displayed on the display apparatus.   
     
     
         5 . The server of  claim 4 , wherein controller is further configured to control the communicator to transmit public information to the display apparatus through the STB, and
 wherein the public information is displayed on the display apparatus together with the content.   
     
     
         6 . A method for providing information by a server, the method comprising:
 based on a user input being input to a user apparatus for receiving personalized information, receiving information from the user apparatus;   performing authentication on the user apparatus based on the received information; and   based on the authentication being successful, transmitting the personalized information corresponding to the authentication to the user apparatus,   wherein the personalized information depends on the authentication.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , further comprising:
 transmitting to a first user apparatus a first personalized information corresponding to a first authentication on the first user apparatus; and   transmitting to a second user apparatus a second personalized information corresponding to a second authentication on the second user apparatus,   wherein the first personalized information is different from the second personalized information.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 6 , further comprising obtaining a user profile corresponding to the received information from the user apparatus from among user profiles corresponding to a plurality of user apparatus included in a user profile database of the server, and
 wherein transmitting the personalized information comprises transmitting, to the user apparatus, the personalized information corresponding to the obtained user profile.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 6 , further comprising transmitting content to a display apparatus through a set top box (STB),
 wherein the user input is input to the user apparatus while the content is displayed on the display apparatus.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , further comprising transmitting public information to the display apparatus through the STB,
 wherein the public information is displayed on the display apparatus together with the content.
