Abstract

Provided are a use of D-galactose in inhibition of quorum sensing and/or in prevention and/or treatment of oral bacterial diseases; in particular, a composition for inhibiting quorum sensing and a composition for preventing and/or treating oral bacterial diseases, the composition comprising D-galactose, and a method of inhibiting quorum sensing and a method of preventing and/or treating oral bacterial diseases, the method comprising administering D-galactose.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method of inhibiting quorum sensing of oral disease-causing bacteria, the method comprising administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of D-galactose to a subject in need of inhibition of quorum sensing of oral disease-causing bacteria, wherein the oral disease-causing bacteria is one or more selected from the group consisting of bacteria belonging to the genus Tannerella.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the oral disease-causing bacteria is Tannerella forsythia.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein quorum sensing of non-pathogenic normal oral flora is not inhibited.

4 . A method of inhibiting biofilm formation of oral disease-causing bacteria, the method comprising administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of D-galactose to a subject in need of inhibition of biofilm formation of oral disease-causing bacteria, wherein the oral disease-causing bacteria is one or more selected from the group consisting of bacteria belonging to the genus Tannerella.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the oral disease-causing bacteria is Tannerella forsythia.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein biofilm formation of non-pathogenic normal oral flora is not inhibited.

7 . A method of preventing, treating, or ameliorating an oral bacterial disease, the method comprising administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of D-galactose to a subject in need of preventing, treating, or ameliorating the oral bacterial disease, wherein the oral disease-causing bacteria is one or more selected from the group consisting of bacteria belonging to the genus Tannerella.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the oral disease-causing bacteria is Tannerella forsythia.

9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the oral bacterial disease is a periodontal disease.
