Abstract
Capped carbon-based nanoparticles may be added to an oil-based fluid to improve the electrical conductivity of the oil-based fluid. The oil-based fluid may be a drilling fluid, a completion fluid, a drill-in fluid, a stimulation fluid, a servicing fluid, and combinations thereof. In a non-limiting embodiment, the oil-based fluid composition may be circulated in a subterranean reservoir wellbore.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method comprising:
adding capped carbon-based nanoparticles in the form of capped graphene oxide to an oil-based fluid to form a fluid composition, wherein the electrical conductivity of the fluid composition is higher than the electrical conductivity of the oil-based fluid without the capped graphene oxide.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the capped graphene oxide is added to the oil-based fluid prior to circulating the fluid composition into a subterranean reservoir wellbore.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the capped graphene oxide is added to the oil-based fluid after introducing the oil-based fluid into a subterranean reservoir wellbore.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the fluid composition further comprises non-capped carbon-based nanoparticles.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the amount of non-capped carbon-based nanoparticles within the fluid composition ranges from about 0.0001 wt % to about 15 wt %.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of capped graphene oxide within the fluid composition ranges from about 0.0001 wt % to about 25 wt %.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the capped graphene oxide is chemically capped.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the capped graphene oxide is functionalized before being chemically capped.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the capped graphene oxide is formed by combining non-capped graphene oxide with a metal carbonyl species capping component.
10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising using the fluid composition to perform a procedure selected from the group consisting of well logging, drilling, completion, fracturing, acidizing, stimulating, cementing, and combinations thereof.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the oil-based fluid is a downhole fluid selected from a group consisting of a drilling fluid, a completion fluid, a drill-in fluid, a stimulation fluid, a servicing fluid, and combinations thereof.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
