System and method for message handling in a network device
Abstract
The present disclosure discloses a method and system for achieving enhanced performance for application message handling. The disclosed system includes a device and is configured to receive, at a first processing layer implemented by the device, a message addressed to a first port. The system is further configured to modify the message to be addressed to a second port indicated in a body of the message prior to forwarding the message to a second processing layer implemented by the device. Furthermore, the system is configured to forward, by the first processing layer to the second processing layer, the modified message addressed to the second port.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An article of manufacture having one or more non-transitory computer readable storage media storing executable instructions thereon which when executed cause a device to perform a method comprising:
receiving, at a first processing layer implemented by the device, a message addressed to a first port; prior to forwarding the message to a second processing layer implemented by the device, the first processing layer modifying the message to be addressed to a second port indicated in a body of the message; forwarding, by the first processing layer to the second processing layer, the modified message addressed to the second port.
2 . The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the first processing layer is a first operating system executing on the device and the second processing layer is a second operating system executing on the device.
3 . The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the first processing layer is a datapath implemented on the device and the second processing layer is a controlpath implemented on the device.
4 . The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the message is modified prior to the packet reaching a transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) stack implemented by the device.
5 . The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein modifying further comprises:
modifying a user datagram protocol (UDP) header in the message.
6 . The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the first application in a user space to receive the message, and is an application associated with the second port.
7 . The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein modifying further comprises:
converting the message to one or more UDP packets.
8 . A system comprising:
a device including a hardware processor, the system being configured to receive, at a first processing layer implemented by the device, a message addressed to a first port, prior to forwarding the message to a second processing layer implemented by the device, the first processing layer to modify the message to be addressed to a second port indicated in a body of the message; forward, by the first processing layer to the second processing layer, the modified message addressed to the second port.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the first processing layer is a first operating system executing on the device and the second processing layer is a second operating system executing on the device.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the first processing layer is a datapath implemented on the device and the second processing layer is a controlpath implemented on the device.
11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the message is modified prior to the packet reaching a transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) stack implemented by the device.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the system configured to modify the message further comprises the system configured lo modify a user datagram protocol (UDP) header in the message.
13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the first application in a user space to receive the message, and is an application associated with the second port.
14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the system configured to modify the message further comprises the system configured to convert the message to one or more UDP packets.
15 . An article of manufacture having one or more non-transitory computer readable storage media storing executable instructions thereon which when executed cause one or more devices to perform a method comprising:
receiving, at a first processing layer implemented by a first device from a second processing layer implemented by the first device, a message indicating a first port as a source port; prior to forwarding the message to a second device, modifying a source port indicated in the message; forwarding, by the first processing layer, the modified message to the second device.
16 . The article of manufacture of claim 15 , wherein the first processing layer is a datapath implemented on the first device and the second processing layer is a controlpath implemented on the first device.
17 . The article of manufacture of claim 16 , wherein modifying further comprises: modifying a user datagram protocol (UDP) header in the message.
18 . A system comprising:
at least one device including a hardware processor, the system being configured to receive, at a first processing layer implemented by a first device from a second processing layer implemented by the first device, a message indicating a first port as a source port; prior to forwarding the message to a second device, modify a source port indicated in the message; forward, by the first processing layer, the modified message to the second device.
19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the first processing layer is a datapath implemented on the first device and the second processing layer is a controlpath implemented on the first device.
20 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the system configured to modify a source port indicated in the message further comprises the system configured to modify a user datagram protocol (UDP) header in the message.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
