Suppressor cover assembly and method

Abstract

A firearm suppressor cover assembly and method of protecting a user while firing a weapon are disclosed. The cover assembly has an insulating cover assembly, a one or more clamps or other firearm suppressor attachment means, one or more standoffs per clamp, and an optional heat shield. The standoffs are coupled to the one or more clamps and in contact with the insulating cover assembly thereby forming an air gap between the suppressor and the insulating cover assembly. The heat shield may be arranged within the air gap.

1 . A firearm suppressor cover assembly, comprising:
 an insulating cover assembly rigidly supported to maintain an elongated shape and shaped to at least partially surround a firearm suppressor; and   one or more firearm attachment means coupled to the firearm suppressor cover assembly, and configured to couple to the firearm suppressor or a firearm barrel, the one or more firearm attachment means separating the insulating cover assembly from the firearm suppressor by an air gap, the air gap extending to front and rear ends of the firearm suppressor cover assembly.   
     
     
         2 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more firearm attachment means include a standoff extending between the firearm suppressor, or the firearm barrel, and the insulating cover assembly.

         4 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the insulating cover assembly includes a thermally reflective liner on an inside surface.

         8 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 1 , wherein adjacent firearm attachment means have at least 60° of circular separation. 
     
     
         9 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more firearm attachment means are permanently fixed to the firearm suppressor cover assembly. 
     
     
         10 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 9 , wherein the one or more firearm attachment means are permanently fixed to a heat shield assembly of the firearm suppressor cover assembly. 
     
     
         11 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 10 , wherein the one or more firearm attachment means are permanently fixed to the firearm suppressor.

         16 . A firearm suppressor cover assembly, comprising:
 an insulating cover assembly rigidly supported to maintain an elongated shape and shaped to at least partially surround a firearm suppressor; and   one or more standoffs shaped to releasably couple the firearm suppressor cover assembly to the firearm suppressor or a firearm barrel, the one or more standoffs arranged to extend between the firearm suppressor, or the firearm barrel, and the insulating cover assembly thereby creating separation between the firearm suppressor, or the firearm barrel, and the insulating cover assembly, the separation extending between and including front and rear ends of the firearm suppressor cover assembly.

The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 16 , wherein the insulating cover assembly comprises an insulating cover and a rigid support having a generally cylindrical shape and being in contact with the insulating cover to support and shape the insulating cover assembly. 
     
     
         19 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more firearm attachment means comprise a clamp or standoff. 
     
     
         20 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 19 , wherein the clamp or standoff is movable and thereby configured to exert pressure on the firearm suppressor or firearm barrel and thereby couple the insulating cover assembly to the firearm suppressor or the firearm barrel. 
     
     
         21 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the insulating cover assembly is not in contact with the firearm suppressor or firearm barrel at both the front and rear ends. 
     
     
         22 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 1 , wherein one of the one or more firearm attachment means is arranged at or near a middle of the firearm suppressor cover assembly as referenced along a longitudinal axis thereof. 
     
     
         23 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 2 , wherein the standoff is movable to secure the firearm suppressor cover assembly to the firearm suppressor or firearm barrel. 
     
     
         24 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 16 , wherein each of the one or more standoffs extends partially around a circumference of the firearm suppressor or the firearm barrel. 
     
     
         25 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 16 , wherein at least one of the one or more standoffs is fixed. 
     
     
         26 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 25 , wherein a movable one of the one or more standoffs moves toward a center of the firearm suppressor or firearm barrel thereby pressing the firearm suppressor or the firearm barrel against the at least one fixed standoff. 
     
     
         27 . A firearm suppressor cover assembly comprising:
 an insulating cover assembly rigidly supported to maintain an elongated shape and shaped to at least partially surround a firearm suppressor;   at least one clamp shaped to releasably couple the firearm suppressor cover assembly to the firearm suppressor or a firearm barrel, the at least one clamp arranged to extend between the firearm suppressor, of the firearm barrel, and the insulating cover assembly such that the insulating cover assembly does not contact the firearm suppressor or the firearm barrel except via the at least one clamp.   
     
     
         28 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 27 , wherein the at least one clamp is formed from two or more standoffs each extending between the insulating cover assembly and the firearm suppressor or the firearm barrel. 
     
     
         29 . The firearm suppressor cover assembly of  claim 28 , wherein one of the one or more standoffs is movable and another of the standoffs is fixed.
