Automated creation and delivery of database content

Abstract

A method and apparatus are disclosed which automatically build a database by automatically assigning links to an expert, pushing content to an expert, providing expert annotation, and linking the content to an annotation database. A term is selected by applying rules. An advertiser can sponsor the term. Content windows can be attached to the term, the content window containing information such as definitions, related products or services, sponsorship information, information from content syndicators, translations and reference works. A utility is available to the expert that allows the expert to analyze the term in context by extending or reducing the sentence or paragraph the word is contained in. Data objects that represent the contents of the database and templates are syndicated to remote servers running a processing engine. The processing engine uses these data objects to execute linking rules without requiring a connection to the database.

1 . A computer implemented method for processing data, the method comprising:
 creating a database having a plurality of data objects, each data object containing data associated with one or more terms;   assembling the plurality of data objects and associated terms into a file for transmission over a network;   transmitting the file to a remote computer for immediate use;   providing a parsing engine at the remote computer to parse a document to identify words contained therein based on one or more parsing rules;   providing an association engine to identify a term contained within the transmitted file corresponding to at least one of the identified words, and to identify associated data for the identified term; and   providing a linking engine to link the identified associated data with the identified term;   wherein the plurality of data objects in the database provide a representation of at least a portion of the database at the one or more remote computers.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 providing a display engine to retrieve and to display the linked identified associated data and identified term in a pop-up window.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the linked identified associated data is linked to other content. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 providing a sponsorship opportunity to at least one entity to sponsor the identified term, wherein a content window is associated with the identified term.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the linked identified associated data comprise one or more of definitions, related products, related services, sponsorship information, translation, and reference works. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the plurality of data objects comprise a template object for identifying at least one rule for processing a source page. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the plurality of data objects comprise a lexicon object for identifying at least one term for tagging in a source page. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the linked identified associated data is displayed on a user interface in response to a selection of the identified term by a user. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the linked identified associated data is stored in the database. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the linked identified associated data comprises one or more of text, image, sound, video and mixed media. 
     
     
         11 . A computer implemented system for processing database content, the system comprising stored software instructions including:
 instructions for parsing a document to identify words contained therein based on at least one rule;   instructions for identifying a word from the identified words corresponding to a term in a file;   instructions for identifying content associated with the term in the file;   instructions for linking the identified content to the identified word in the document; and   instructions for displaying the identified content based upon a user interaction with at least a portion of the document;   wherein the file contains one or more data objects associated with a database and is received by one or more remote computers for immediate use in providing a representation of at least a portion of the database at the one or more remote computers; and   wherein the one or more data objects contain data associated with one or more terms.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 11 , further comprising stored software instructions including:
 instructions for providing a display engine to retrieve and to display the linked content and the corresponding term in a pop-up window.   
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the linked content is linked to other content. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 11 , further comprising stored software instructions including:
 instructions for providing a sponsorship opportunity to at least one entity to sponsor the corresponding term, wherein a content window is associated with the identified term.   
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the linked content comprises one or more of definitions, related products, related services, sponsorship information, translation, and reference works. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the plurality of data objects comprise a template object for identifying at least one rule for processing a source page. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the plurality of data objects comprise a lexicon object for identifying at least one term for tagging in a source page. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the linked content is displayed on a user interface in response to a selection of the corresponding term by a user. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the linked content is stored in the database. 
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the linked content comprises one or more of text, image, sound, video and mixed media.
