Abstract

The vehicle control system/method for adapting a control function based on a user profile may comprise: a gesture recognition module; a user profile module; a function control module; a processor; a non-transitory storage element coupled to the processor; encoded instructions stored in the non-transitory storage element, wherein the encoded instructions when implemented by the processor, configure the system to: identify a user; retrieve a user profile for the identified user; receive at a gesture recognition module, an input indicating a gesture from the user; identify a control function request corresponding to the gesture input; send a verification of the control function request; and receive at a function control module characteristics parsed from the user profile that effect the control function request by the user profile module to adapt a control function command for an adapted control function output by the function control module.

I/We claim: 
     
         1 . A vehicle control system for adapting a control function based on a user profile, said system comprising:
 a gesture recognition module;   a user profile module;   a function control module;   a processor;   a non-transitory storage element coupled to the processor;   encoded instructions stored in the non-transitory storage element, wherein the encoded instructions when implemented by the processor, configure the system to:   identify a user;   retrieve a user profile for the identified user;   receive at a gesture recognition module, an input indicating a gesture from the user;   identify a control function request corresponding to the gesture input;   send a verification of the control function request; and   receive at a function control module characteristics parsed from the user profile that effect the control function request by the user profile module to adapt a control function command for an adapted control function output by the function control module.   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, via the vehicle control system, if the verification should be resent;   if the verification should be resent, the vehicle control system again sending the verification; and   if the verification should not be resent, receiving another input indicating another gesture.   
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 2 , wherein the verification is an audible message presented to the user. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising a need for a confirmation, wherein said confirmation is in the form of a second gesture. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising a need for a confirmation, wherein said confirmation is in the form of an audible input. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the verification is a user interface message presented on a screen. 
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising a confirmation, wherein said confirmation is a selection of a user interface device on the screen. 
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the verification is a preview of the function associated with the gesture. 
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising: the vehicle control system receiving a denial of the verification; and based on the denial, the vehicle control system not completing the function associated with the gesture. 
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the characteristics from the user profile is at least one of an age of the user or eye-sight vision of the user to adapt the control function command for larger-font text display on the user interface device. 
     
     
         11 . A vehicle control system for adapting a control function based on a user profile, said system comprising:
 a user profile module;   a function control module;   a processor;   a non-transitory storage element coupled to the processor;   encoded instructions stored in the non-transitory storage element, wherein the encoded instructions when implemented by the processor, configure the system to:   identify a user;   retrieve a user profile for the identified user;   receive a control function request input;   send a verification of the control function request; and   receive at a function control module characteristics parsed from the user profile that effect the control function request by the user profile module to adapt a control function command for an adapted control function output by the function control module.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, via the vehicle control system, if the verification should be resent;   if the verification should be resent, the vehicle control system again sending the verification; and if the verification should not be resent, receiving another input indicating another gesture.

         22 . The system of  claim 11 , further comprising a need for a confirmation, wherein the confirmation is one of a gesture, a selection of a user interface device on the screen, or an audible confirmation. 
     
     
         23 . The system of  claim 11 , further comprising a preview, wherein the preview comprises initiating the function associated with the input for a predetermined time. 
     
     
         24 . The system of  claim 23 , wherein the user confirms or denies the function and, if confirmed, the function mimics what is provided in the preview. 
     
     
         25 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the control function input is at least one of an audible input, gesture-based input, scroll-down menu of entries, or text input. 
     
     
         26 . A method for adapting a control function based on a user profile, said method comprising the steps of:
 identifying a user;   retrieving a user profile for the identified user;   receiving an input indicating a gesture from the user;   identifying a control function request corresponding to the gesture input;   sending a verification of the control function request; and   receiving characteristics parsed from the user profile that effect the control function request to adapt a control function command for an adapted control function output.   
     
     
         27 . A method for adapting a control function based on a user profile, said method comprising the steps of:
